Great Gift,
By Mike Z (Dallas TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Elvis: The Personal Archives (Hardcover)
I purchased this book a few weeks before Christmas and enjoyed paging through some incredible pictures. I left the book on my coffee table with a few of my other favorite end table books and noted most of my holiday guest opened this book first and great conversation followed. Like my friends, having grown up in the 60's, this book illustrates a bunch of the icons from the era.... super gift for any music fan.

Elvis, The Personal Archives. A work of Art!!!!,
By
This review is from: Elvis: The Personal Archives (Hardcover)
First as an Elvis fan I love this book. In this book,Jeff Scott brings us places that only a chosen few have gone, behind the walls of Graceland and into archival storage areas to see some of Elvis' personal items. The photos of some of these items are so crystal clear you get the feeling you can almost touch them. He has a way of making you feel your in Elvis' room. For example on page 40 there is a photo of some items from Elvis' Medicine cabinet (Comb, razor, calogne & Hairspray etc.) Well I have never seen "Ultra Control De Pantene" hair spray, but when I look at Jeff's photo of it, I swear I know exactly what it smells like. As a collector of Elvis' personal items I really Dig this book because Jeff shows us items that have been hidden from the general public until now. This is a high quality book. Don't miss it, It is truly a work of art!

Artful and poignant reflection on the King,
This review is from: Elvis: The Personal Archives (Hardcover)
A well-designed collection of Elvis Presley imagery. Some are skillfully appropriated collages, some are simply gritty recordings of what was left behind. The author's technique reveals a body of work that embraces the fading and brittle nature of his subjects, sometimes amplifying and augmenting the effects of time on these artifacts. This is not your average Presley memorabilia book, but a thoughtful meditation that artfully illustrates both the boundless legend and peculiar idiosyncrasy of one of the most remarkable American icons.
