Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 4-8-While this biography does not provide new information or insight into the King, it does fill a need for material about the legendary performer. The clearly written, brief text describes Presley's shyness as a child and the difficulties of growing up in poverty. Krohn fleshes out the details of her subject's interest in singing, his early career, and the breaks and choices that led him to stardom. The easy-to-understand prose will appeal to reluctant readers. Several black-and-white photographs augment the text.

From Booklist

Gr. 5-7. This rather chaste biography of Elvis Presley reports on the life of the King, rather than giving young people any real sense of the excitement he engendered. Still, for those familiar with the man and/or his music who want to know more, this is a serviceable introduction. Krohn's biography is chronological and features a nice selection of black-and-white photographs, including one of the Elvis stamp. The book could have used both a discography and a bibliography, as well as source notes. An entry in the Achievers series. Ilene Cooper
