Biography

Elvis Aaron Presley was born to Vernon and Gladys Presley in a two-room house in Tupelo, Mississippi, on January 8, 1935. His twin brother, Jessie Garon, was stillborn, leaving Elvis to grow up as an only child. He and his parents moved to Memphis, Tennessee, in 1948, and Elvis graduated from Humes High School there in 1953.

Editorial Reviews

First-ever coupling of the Elvis and Elvis Presley LPs of 1956! The albums themselves include Blue Suede Shoes; Ready Teddy; I Got a Woman; Just Because; Tutti Frutti; Money Honey; Paralyzed; Old Shep; Love Me , and more. But this 2-CD set adds a wealth of RCA singles and EP tracks: Heartbreak Hotel; I Want You, I Need You, I Love You; Don't Be Cruel; Hound Dog; Too Much; Love Me Tender; Playing for Keeps hit after hit after hit!

Even the most ardent of Presley fans will look at this 'Legacy Edition' of his explosive debut album - and yawn - even grumble a little. RCA is milking it again. They'd be right of course. But I'm reviewing "Elvis Presley (Legacy Edition)" because there are far too many plus-points in its favour to have it ignored (especially the superlative new remastered sound). But let's get to the details first...

UK released Monday 26 September 2011 (27 Sep 2011 in the USA) - RCA/Legacy 8869796183 2 contains 2 whole albums and the A&B-sides of 6 x 7" singles.

In 1956, these two albums launched a worldwide phenomena known as Elvis Presley. 'Elvis Presley' and 'Elvis' are beautifully remastered on two discs along with a total of 12 bonus tracks ('Heartbreak Hotel', 'Don't Be Cruel', 'Hound Dog', 'Shake, Rattle And Roll', etc.) added after the conclusion of the original album track listings (5 tracks added to 'E.P.' and 7 tracks to 'E.'). The sound is really crisp and clear. A booklet with an essay packed with rare photos and a track listings bio included. Original album covers plus the back album cover of 'E.P.'. Set is nicely packaged. Again, the sound is dynamite. Highly recommended.

"Elvis Presely", the debut album of Elvis Presley has been re-released (yet again), as a Legacy Edition. The album has been re-mastered by Vic Anesini. Anesini has also re-mastered the other Elvis Legacy albums recently put out. I have The Complete 50's Master's, Essential 60's Masters V.1, Essential 70's Masters, Today, Tommorow, and Forever, Elvis Close-Up, and Elvis Platinum-A Life In Music box sets. Along with various other CD's (live historical concerts, hits, '68 Comeback etc.), there's really no point in getting anything else. I would suggest to die-hard Elvis fans who own everything already; these Legacy Editions have such fantastic sound that they are worth checking out. For the new Elvis fan these Legacy editions are a great way to start your Elvis catalogue.

I first had this album years ago on a re-issued vinyl edition (pre-CD). There's much more than the orignal album here as released in 1956. This collection is paired with Elvis' second album "Elvis". Also included are the singles released during that time, A and B sides. In those days the singles sold the album, the singles were not included on the album. If your a music geek, you'll enjoy reading the liner notes on the putting together of the album. At the time RCA was desperate to put out an Elvis album, which is made up of Sun sides never released, songs Elvis was singing live at the time, along with songs Elvis just loved singing. It's really the singles which stand out most ironically; Heartbreak Hotel, I Was the One, Hound Dog, Don't Be Cruel etc. There's some really cool stuff in the album material however; One-Sided Love Affair, Trying To Get To You, Love Me, So Glad You're Mine etc.

I wish I was around in '56 to hear this stuff over the radio.

There has been so much written about this music down through the years, I don't know if I have anything really original to add. What I do want to point out is how amazing the sound is on this remaster. Even if you know this stuff in your gut, you will hear it anew on this set. Here's to a job very well done.

This package is terrific however the booklet states that the original LP's were released in the correct months but in 1955 which is an error. This omission appears in very small print right after track 12 of each LP in the 'Track Listing' section of the booklet. Obviously the correct year of release for both LP's is 1956.

This is probably between the 10th and 15th time I have purchase most of these songs back to the original vinyl which I still own. They sound at least as good as the last five times I purchased them. I think Elvis must really have died. They are every bit as exciting today as the first time I heard them back in 56' 57'. The improved fidelity offsets my loss of hearing from too many of his live concerts. At least I am contributing to keep him up there as one of top earning deceased celebrities and the colonel can no longer screw him out of it.
