5.0 out of 5 stars Phenomenal DSD sound, simply puts other Elvis collections to shame!
First of all, the sound on these tracks is simply mind-blowing and definitely the best these tracks have ever sounded! Gone is all the mindless brickwall limiting exercised on such collections as "30#1 Hits" or "2nd to None", instead with the help of DSD mastering we are getting the original mixes reproduced as faithful as possible. The sound has noticeably more air,...

3.0 out of 5 stars The king of collectors items?
Just when I thought we were getting another disc of hits, we are getting many. However, here we get twenty 2-track CDs. Each disc is the single and b-side, with the 45 sleeve artwork and all. At one moment I think this is a really neat and clever idea, and then I think who would ever actually buy this other than the biggest of fans. How many people want to change their...

The sound has noticeably more air, more definition, and the dynamic range has not been tampered with. One simply has to wonder whether BMG did not miss a golden opportunity here by not compiling these forty tracks onto a *killer* double-disc set at a more affordable price point. They definitely deserve a much wider exposure beyond the limited edition box set format they were released in.

5.0 out of 5 stars Box set of singles, January 29, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Elvis #1 Singles (Coll) (Dlx) (Spkg) (Audio CD)
This box set is in reponse to the English box set. There the singles came out one week at a time and actually many of them became number one again!! They were so populat that all throughout the world these singles were sold and garnered big prices on eBay. Now the US has done the same thing. But you get all the singles in one box, not issued one at a time. There propably is no radio station that would bother playing them. After all, American Rock n Roll is more appreciated in other countries than in their homeland.

BMG/Sony did a very nice job with these. They are the correct sleeves, and for once the correct versions of the songs. If you remember Elv1s 30 had four wrong versions on it. These are the right ones. I also noticed that Hit Story also corrected their Elv1s with the correct versions. For the first time in over a decade we get the correct version of BIG HUNK o' LOVE that's worth the price alone!!!

Elvis Is In Me (Hull, MA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Elvis #1 Singles (Coll) (Dlx) (Spkg) (Audio CD)
This set has its ups and downs. On the plus side, the 50's hits NEVER sounded better, and I'm one of those chumps that keep buying the same songs over and over in different compilations hoping for a sonic revelation. The packaging is nice as well. On the down side, we get the same lousy stereo mix of "Return To Sender" as we've been getting through every CD version I know. I do have it in a great stereo version on "The Great Performances" CD I bought back in the 1980's, albeit muffled. Finally, BMG was not totally faithful as most of the 60's singles were only released in mono, which I was hoping for. Instead, they are here in stereo.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Packaging & Great Sound Quality, July 1, 2006
This review is from: Elvis #1 Singles (Coll) (Dlx) (Spkg) (Audio CD)
The packaging is great (includes a fold out poster with all single covers on it and a booklet with liner notes). The sound is exceptional.

This and the UK No.1 Singles Box are great collections. The cardboard single covers in the US Box have a flat finish while those in the UK Box have a glossy finish.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well Done RCA !!, April 11, 2006
This review is from: Elvis #1 Singles (Coll) (Dlx) (Spkg) (Audio CD)
All Elvis' No.1 US Singles in one box set. Each Double-Sided CD Single with Original Artwork - Now that is a great packaging idea. If you are an Elvis fan, you just gotta have this. It will remind you of why you always loved the 45's, and the sound of each immaculately retains the flavour of the era (I loaded them onto my ipod for continuous playing, as constantly changing a CD after every 2 tracks, gets a little irritating). For casual Elvis fans, it is probably not worth the money as you can get these tracks much cheaper on one compilation. For me, it reminds me of exactly why I started listening to Elvis..Great Music!!! and for someone too young to remember the era, I can now see what the product looked like on the shelves, way back when music really mattered....Enjoy!

I LIKED Elvis before I was given this boxed set as a gift, but I wasn't a HUGE fan. Absolutely his voice was incredible, his charisma was undeniable, his good looks were legendary. But I never would have gone out of my way to buy his music.

And then I saw the movie, The Game Plan, with Duane "The Rock" Johnson, The Game Plan (Full Screen Edition) and the soundtrack was full of fun Elvis hits. I have to admit, I couldn't get those songs out of my head, and Elvis' sultry tones echoed for months in my head after seeing the movie. So when someone gave me this boxed set as a gift, I was grateful...but after actually hearing these singles individually, I AM THRILLED to own these Elvis #1 Singles for myself. The combination of the unbelievable sound quality and the artwork that graces each CD cover makes this a gift that keeps on giving.

If you know anyone who likes Elvis even a little, this is a great gift. If you have a big Elvis fan in your life, it's a can't-miss gift. And if you are in either one of those categories, treat yourself and get it. You will not regret it, I promise!

<and while you're at it, get the movie I mentioned above, The Game Plan, The Game Plan (Full Screen Edition). You'll love hearing Elvis throughout the movie, which is a fun experience in itself!

How many people want to change their CDs every 6 minutes? Again, cool idea and nice packaging, but I'd rather put in my "30 Number Ones" collection and walk away for an hour. And I don't think a free poster is gonna change my mind. 5 stars for the music, 1 for the trouble.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not only music, January 26, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Elvis #1 Singles (Coll) (Dlx) (Spkg) (Audio CD)
20 singles and 21 #1 so the music that one can expect is just marvellous. On the other hand these songs are being sold over and over again so why 5 stars? Just because I think that a disc is not only a collection of songs. Yep! And it's a fine way to fight bootleggin'!
No (more) musical surprises, not for the casual fan but an item to watch, to touch and to enjoy!
