Editorial Reviews

Review

Elvis always lovingly and with true admiration referred to Joe Esposito as "Gentleman Joe". In the 35 years that I have known him, Joe has continued to conduct himself in that fashion. You only need to read his latest book to get a true understanding of who Joe is, and a clearer picture of who Elvis and his friends and lovers were, and what life with the King involved. I love you, Joe....thanks for being a true friend to me and to Elvis....even today. -- Linda Thompson, Elvis' girlfriend and confidant, 1972-1976

I am really impressed with how good this book is. Joe has outdone himself again with Elvis Straight Up. I really learned a lot of things that I never knew about. Thank you for clearing them up. -- Betty Gorvadian

I love it! What a great read. I am happy that Joe finally cleared up what happened with the Raquetball lawsuit. I also appreciated you telling us that Col. Parker really cared and fought for Elvis in the end. The photos brought a lot of tears. -- Michael B Scotland

In "Elvis Straight Up" Joe gives a realistic look at Elvis and those around him. Thanks, Joe, for having the courage to be truthful and giving those "on the outside" real information, not just supposition. For fans who are tired of fictionalized stories and sugar-coated variations, this is the book to read. Be informed by one who knows. -- Loanne Parker, Mrs. Colonel Tom Parker, manager of Elvis Presley

Loved the book. Joe tells the truth about Elvis's colleagues and friends. -- Patti Parry, close friend of Elvis' since the early sixties

From the Back Cover

Destined to become the most examined and talked about book since Elvis, What Happened?. NO MATTER WHAT YOU HAVE EVER READ BEFORE...ELVIS-STRAIGHT UP! WILL CHANGE THE WAY YOU LOOK AT ELVIS PRESLEY. What was the "real" Elvis like? The search for the truth is over!

I ordered this book, which, was supposed to ship within 48 hours and didn't receive it for two months after having to chase the writer down.

I was so let down when I got this very thin book that took me all of two hours, if that to read. I felt it had nothing new in it. It was supposed to be filled with never before heard news, but it was filled with the same old, same old.

I still can't believe that the writer charges this type of money for this tiny read. It really is shameful too that I had to chase the author down through his website seeing as it's near impossible to get ahold of the publishing company, whom I originally ordered this very thin book from.

I am sad to report that I cannot give this book as possitive review as I would want to.

Nothing new, it took about 2 hours to read it, it's cheap looking and i wish I hadn't bought it. If you're an Elvis fan, buy a book that's credible - don't waste time and money with Joe Esposito's crappy cheap publications. It's Elvis who's the superstar Joe not you.

I've got about 12 books on Elvis and "Last Train to Memphis" is the best and most accurate. Joe has already wrote one book and this one was wrote just to make money with another book probably on the way. If Elvis fans expert to learn something new-- then forget this book. Very overprices for a paper back book.

I have read this book several times and was very impressed by how it was written. I like the fact that Joe Esposito did not go the easy route by exempting himself from his own wrong doings. All in all a very interesting and worthwhile read. The only negative about this book is that there will be no sequel. Denise

I enjoyed reading this book. I actually read this book a couple of months ago and thought I had already commented. I like reading about the Memphis Mafia and their lives with Elvis, when done properly and respectfully.I feel this was done in the book, other books not so.I wish Volume 2 would come out. Can you imagine the conversations you could have in a sit down with Mr.Esposito.

I enjoyed this book very much! I didn't want to put it down., it told me the story of Elvis which I never knew, it makes you understand the things he went through as told by someone that was actually there., it made me appreciate Elvis more knowing him as a human being and as an artist as well., it told of the things he went through, his music, his love life, his struggles, and the great love he had for his fans., I recommend this book for all Elvis admirers and anyone who just wants to learn more about Elvis., after reading this book it made me want to pull out my Elvis CD and listen to his music.

This was a good book, however, I wish the volumes would have continued instead of quitting with the second volume. I'm sure there were many stories that could be told.

Excellent book. Really fast read. Love the format and the print size. Love to read a book about Elvis from his sincere and life-long friends. You know what you are reading IS Straight-UP and from the heart of his best friend, Joe Esposito. As in reading the book by Jerry Shilling, you can feel the love and respect they had for their best friend between the lines and right there in black in white. Can't wait to get to Volume 2. When reading a book like this one, you feel you really get to know Elvis as a person and the image he created for himself just seems to get bigger and better!
