5.0 out of 5 stars ELVIS AT HIS BEST, January 7, 2003

This review is from: Elvis at the International (Audio CD)
There have been many concert cd's released in the FTD series, but this, in my opinion, is one of the best. Elvis really doing what he does best, singing his heart. Taken from one of his first concerts in 1969, after spending 8 years making movies.
The versions of "Reconsider Baby" "Runaway" are amongst the best versions available and to have another version of that gorgeous song "Memories" is a treat. However for me the highlight is the monologue with Elvis just having fun with his audience.
If you don't own any of the excellent "Follow That Dream" series this is a good place to start.
Coming soon is the legendary 1976 New Years Eve Concert in Pittsburgh. I for one can't get enough of these specialised CD's. Buy it before it becomes unavailable.

5.0 out of 5 stars International Male, January 14, 2004

Follow That Dream Records is a subdivision of BMG Records that releases limited edition Elvis Presley CDs. These are CDs that they feel there is not enough interest in for a regular release, but Elvis' biggest fans would be interested in. Basically, these CDs are released in order to combat "bootleg" Elvis CDs. Follow That Dream had released several concert albums, and this is the best one (so far). This show is from Elvis' first Las Vegas series after his big comeback. These shows yielded the best live performances of Elvis' career. Elvis was in top voice, and he was really "fired up" to be performing for a live audience. As the years went by, Elvis lost his enthusiasm for performing, but at this point he was really into it. He sings all the songs with conviction, and seems to be having the time of his life. If you are going to get only one Follow That Dream concert CD, this is the one to get. I should also mention that the track listing on the CD is wrong. Track 4 is listed as "Welcome", but Elvis welcoming the audience is actually tacked onto the end of track 3("All Shook Up"). So, all the songs after "All Shook Up" are actually one track number lower than what they are listed as.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another Vegas Show, July 1, 2006
Ok, it's another Las Vegas show and it costs a lot of money to get this one because it's released on the FTD label. The great thing about this album is it's a complete concert that lasts nearly 80 minutes. The bad thing about this show is Elvis' constant barrage of mostly idiotic comments, giggling and loud shot-gun noises (which must have made the engineers panic each time he did it) through out the whole show. One of the things about these 1969 Vegas shows that gets extremely annoying is how Elvis doesn't seem to take some of the songs seriously, cracking jokes in the middle, or just taking too long to get on to the next song. The thing about these shows that stands out above nearly any other concert post 1973 is how much Elvis really cared and is thoroughly enjoying himself. He knew he was the best thing in Vegas at that time, and I don't think there's too many shows that could match an Elvis concert in 1969 or 1970. There are amazing moments in here, like the almost eight minute version of Suspicious Minds (the 7 minute version released on "Elvis in Person at the International Hotel" is by far the hottest version). In 1969, Elvis really poured his heart and soul into Suspicious Minds (even though occasionally he through in "shove it up your nose" in the middle). This album is definitely worth the price for die-hard fans. The casual fan will probably not want to spend the money on this and won't find anything revealing if they purchsed the Vegas Box set.

The sound on this CD is sensational along with the fact that Mr. Presley was actually up for performing and singing with emotion! You won't be disappointed.
