4.0 out of 5 stars Little known man of history, March 8, 2007
This review is from: The Emancipator (Paperback)
Elihu Embree lived at the turn of the century and published the first newspaper solely devoted to the aboolition of slavery in the United States. He did this in a southern state, Tennessee. This book tells Mr. Embree's story and then includes every issue of his paper, "The Emancipator". He died at young age, 38, so there are only seven issues. Others would take up the cause and publish papers in the north. Jonesborough's Elihu Embree is one of those people who made a contribution to the ending of slavery that you may not have ever heard of. His story is fascinating with some interesting twists.
