4.0 out of 5 stars 4 GB Egmatic MP3 Player
Excellent MP3 player for my 11 year old. It's been durable, with no issues with storage or downloads. I was initially worried about the keys or the LCD getting damaged, however, the unit has survived normal wear and tear. It's not the prettiest gadget in the world, but well suited for a pre-teen.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad but never again
Not a bad idea but this one is not for me but i will not throw it away I can use it still. From my opinion it could have been done better but hey how much you give is how much you get. OS on it seems like from those first color display cell phones but basics are kept to minimum. You have option to preview video but IT HAS TO BE encoded into 3GP which i hate and you have...

4.0 out of 5 stars Ematic ideo audio voice, recorder/player, July 11, 2009

This review is from: Ematic 4GB Video MP3 Player with 2.4-Inch QVGA Screen, Digital Camera and Video Recorder (Black) (Electronics)
Not bad considering it was 54 bucks. The two Mega pixel camera is so so and has some trouble focusing. The audio player isn't bad because you can create folders on the device however, you cannot upload whole folders onto the device. Each and every song must be tediously copied to the player in its specific folder. The video conversion software says vista ready , but I couldn't get it to work with vista 32 or 64 bit! A little bit of a downer, The manual is nearly useless as it lacks detail and language skills. This one would be good if you are a computer whiz, but then you might be really unhappy with it, when compared to other items of a similar nature for higher prices. But definately has bang for the buck!

Not a bad idea but this one is not for me but i will not throw it away I can use it still. From my opinion it could have been done better but hey how much you give is how much you get. OS on it seems like from those first color display cell phones but basics are kept to minimum. You have option to preview video but IT HAS TO BE encoded into 3GP which i hate and you have it with a CD that comes with it. CD contains WMP some codecs (which you definitely do not need unless you have a video encoded into an DiVx and you have no codecs installed on your computer (trust me when I say just go with Xvid codec - I deal with video almost 10 years now). The camera that comes with it is VGA meaning 320x240 15fps max size video files can created with what they say 2MP pinhole type camera. It is very fragile for my taste. The picture shown here is ok but once you turn it the other way (the one you actualy use) is not here so I will post a picture of that. Buttons that you utilize are horrible. You can hear it snap and if I press it much harder I fell like I am about to penetrate through them. Although this thing is 4 GB (enough for a child these days) it has additional port for micro SD card on it and thus expand your memory. First time I hooked it up for charging I have started copying one file and it took some time to start transfering even though it says it supports "high USB speeds". Then had to format it but once you do that all you have to do is make folders in it like before and put your songs/videos/pictures in those folders. Music files are just copy/paste away. No need for additional reconverting but you can't put folders on it since it will not recognize it. Music file has to be on root folder AUDIO. Guide that comes with it is horrible (bad english - and I am not an American or a person that speaks english language as native one). Once you mess things up you will have to use it but I would recommend that you use common sense for figuring out what is wrong with it (like computer knowledge). All in all not a bad idea but it could have been done better. The only thing I like about it is that it is the size of my Creative ZEN 16GB, and Ematic 4GB is twice as lighter than ZEN with an IDEA of all in one thing. These days just invest into a descent mobile phone you will have it all. But this can be a gift that can be disposable after a while (meaning when it breaks). Why I gave it 3 stars is because of weight, IDEA and simplicity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific All in One Gadget, April 26, 2010
I can't understand why so many are complaining about this ematic 4gb mp3, camera, video, fm tuner, recorder and more. I ordered mine from[...] and paid $40. It arrived in 5 days (free shipping). I started to play with it right out of the box. The ArcSoft Media Impression software is amazing. I was able to convert two movies to the player, with plenty of room for several more. The volume is fine with or without a headset. You don't have to read the manual, just plug in the player, go to the video folder and you can see and hear the instructions on your computer. Yes, the camera function has no flash, so what, it still takes a decent pic. Would I use the ematic on vacation for my photos, no, but to catch a quick shot why not. Music was the easiest to transfer. You simply drag and drop. Like I said I don't know what "they" are complaining about, for the money this is the bomb! I think some people just can't get through the day without complaining about something.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great little gagdet, minor disappointment., May 29, 2009
After much research and not wanting to spend over [...] bucks, I decided to purchase this. Mainly due to the many features. I was really interested in the ereader function but alas when I got it it read only txt files. So needless to say I don't use that function very much but I do otherwise love it. Very glad I got it. I have had no problems transferring music or video onto it. It's just great.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor Quality... lots of problems!, April 30, 2009
I bought this for my son. It is not very user friendly and the music downloads keep erasing. I have put the music on this device at least three times and it keeps erasing. It's not just my 11 yr old. It did it to me as well. The camera quality is very poor. And now it freezes. I have to reboot it to get it to work at all! And don't bother with the replacement plan - what a joke!

4.0 out of 5 stars A great gift for children, October 7, 2009

I bought this for my granddaughter who is 10. It was not difficult to download the music from a website or to transfer from a CD. I bought this product for the price only but found that it was far more versatile than my personal iPod. She loves it and has not difficulty navigating through the programs.

4.0 out of 5 stars MOM, October 6, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought this for my newly turned 11 yr. old. She was estatic until we tried to put music on it. I had to read the instructions carefully. It is not as easy as any of the other mp3's in our home. But once I figured out how to open the files my daughter was all smiles again. Over all I am happy with my purchase.

I was searching for a replacement MP3 player and happened somehow upon this little beauty in my search. I was a bit skeptical - I mean really - you get an MP3 player, video camera, still photo camera (5mp), voice recorder, photo player, video player - for $50? no way! So I ordered it, figuring if only the MP3 player worked, for 4G space (plus it has a TF flash card reader, so it's expandable) I'd get my money's worth. The Apple Shuffle (IPOD) is the same price, and you don't get anything else besides the MP3 player!

I cannot comment on : video recorder, voice recorder - I have not used those yet.

I CAN comment on :
the MP3 player - sound is EXCELLENT - better than my previous MP3 player.

camera - 5 MP camera - I thought it would be hoaky but it's marvelous! This right here, is your everyday take along point and shoot camera.

video player - ok. had some issues here. the unit comes with a mini-rom for its software. you need this software to convert your videos for playback on the unit. yet, when i tried to install, i kept getting the message the files were "corrupted". i have yet to call customer service on this one as i have not had time. i have heard also bad things about "customer NO service" regarding this company. i will be honest and say the video feature is the one i was MOST excited about and now i can't enjoy it yet. it's rather anti-climatic, i guess, but in all fairness i haven't given the company a chance to prove itself.

photo viewer - FANTASTIC! only advice would be watch out for the larger sized photos you wish to store on here, as little viewer seems to have troubles with large size photos.

by and large, it is very easy to maneuver - very easy to add files, or to delete files off the unit. it comes w/ USB cable for charging, and earbuds and the mini-ROM with the firmware, and instruction booklet.

oh yes, and i love the color! ;)

my son has been after me to get him a new MP3 player and i can definitely say, this is a teen's dream come true - if you're looking for a nice christmas gift, b-day gift, etc. - this is a solid bet!

screen measures roughly 2x3" - whole unit is 2.5 x 4" approx. also comes with nice protective casing (rubber) for the unit.

NOTE: camera does NOT have flash, however, i've tried it in the office under fluorescent lights and there is no flash needed in that instance. i've used it on way home, while driving to catch local scenery. i am quite pleased with its photo quality. SO, if you're like me and have the cool Canon/Nikon bigger camera at home, yet you really just wnt to point and shoot without the weighty camera, take this little baby. She does the job - and quite nicely. i would not recommend this for night use, obviously, or somewhere where lighting is crucial.

buy it - one for you - one for your teen! you do get what you pay for, but in this instance, i got more, so i am quite pleased.
