Book Description

0471738417 978-0471738411 February 16, 2007 1
This is a real-time digital signal processing textbook using the latest embedded Blackfin processor Analog Devices, Inc (ADI).  20% of the text is dedicated to general real-time signal processing principles.  The remaining text provides an overview of the Blackfin processor, its programming, applications, and hands-on exercises for users.  With all the practical examples given to expedite the learning development of Blackfin processors, the textbook doubles as a ready-to-use user's guide.   The book is based on a step-by-step approach in which readers are first introduced to the DSP systems and concepts.  Although, basic DSP concepts are introduced to allow easy referencing, readers are recommended to complete a basic course on "Signals and Systems" before attempting to use this book.  This is also the first textbook that illustrates graphical programming for embedded processor using the latest LabVIEW Embedded Module for the ADI Blackfin Processors. A solutions manual  is available for adopters of the book from the Wiley editorial department.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"…indispensable reference for anyone involved in the design of systems using this family of processors [Blackfin]." (Computing Reviews.com, September 18, 2007)

From the Back Cover

A practical, hands-on guide to embedded signal processing

This unique reference covers the basic concepts, principles, and theory behind digital signal processing (DSP), but emphasizes a learn-by-doing approach and focuses on real-time applications. Readers quickly learn to use the latest tools to design, simulate, and implement the algorithms for applications.

  • Part A explores fundamental DSP concepts using software tools from MathWorks, Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI), and National Instruments (NI)
  • Part B focuses on the design and implementation of embedded systems based on the Blackfin processor and introduces many design and development tools
  • Part C focuses on designing and implementing real-time DSP applications
  • The book includes experiments and exercises based on the Blackfin BF533 and BF537 EZ-KIT Lite boards; an accompanying FTP site provides additional exercises using the Blackfin simulator and other EZ-KIT Lite boards
  • The companion Web site is updated continually to reflect the latest upgrades to Blackfin tools and processors
  • Hands-on examples, quizzes, experiments, exercises, exercise problems, and application projects accelerate and enhance learning

This is an excellent desktop reference for practicing engineers and a combination workbook and textbook for undergraduate and graduate students in embedded signal processing design and/or real-time signal processing courses.

4.0 out of 5 stars like being reacquainted with an old friend, January 7, 2009
By
This review is from: Embedded Signal Processing with the Micro Signal Architecture (Hardcover)
My purpose in purchasing the book was to become familiar with the new AD Micro Signal Architecture processors. Having experience with the earlier generation processors, the ADSP-2100 series, this book is like being reacquainted with an old friend. Anyone who programmed the 2100 series will be familiar with the core of the Black Fin and very pleased with the tools that are available for developing and testing. The author does a good job of including examples and discussion based on real world experience.
