Fantastic design...but,

This review is from: Embody Chair by Herman Miller - Fully Adjustable Arms - Black Balance Fabric on Graphite Frame and Base
I researched ergonomic chairs to death....looked for just the right fit. Have had less expensive office chairs but never the right feel - seats were too deep or couldn't adjust them to my fit.
Decided to take the splurge and get the Embody by Herman Miller. I measured and measured to make certain it would work for me. It came and I loved it...the design is spectacular and as claimed.....just about every adjustment can be made for the perfect fit and comfort. However, by the third week I was having lower back discomfort and the location of the lumbar support felt like a rock against my back. I called the retailer and Herman Miller directly (they are extremely helpful by the way) and still couldn't change adjustments so I could sit for longer periods of time without having lower back discomfort/pain. So...much to my disappointment I returned the Embody. If I do find the perfect chair for me, I will review it so others who may have the same lower back issues may find it helpful.

Not sure what's wrong, but this thing is killing me,

This review is from: Embody Chair by Herman Miller - Home Office Desk Task Chair with Adjustable Arms - Graphite Frame Rhythm Black Fabric
I WANT to love this chair, especially after shelling out so much money for it, but in truth, this thing absolutely KILLS my back. Even after using it for almost a full year, I feel wrecked every time I step away from this chair -- not just uncomfortable, but literally in pain.
Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but frankly, I'd love to get this thing adjusted correctly (if there even is such a thing). The "adjustment guide" PDF available from Herman Miller's web site does little to help, though. Any tips or suggestions from anyone?

I'm only rating this chair 4 stars because (in my experience) no chair is perfect. My main problem with this one - it forces me to sit up straight. Really - I like slumping & putting my feet up, but this chair works best when I'm actually sitting the way you're supposed to. I went to a local store and tried out many of the au courant famous chairs - Leap, Aeron, Mirra & a number of cheaper ones. First I decided on a Leap but then returned it because the seat was very hard. Then this one came home and is staying.
The other reviewer goes into infinite detail about the adjustments, so I won't repeat that. Like that person, I was dismayed at the lack of an instruction card, and the Herman Miller web site makes finding the manual a major pain. Even with it, I still couldn't figure out how to raise the seat & needed to go back to the store for a demo. The manual is awful. That aside, I don't recommend buying any chair without sitting in it first. Not that you shouldn't buy it from Amazon - I didn't only because I needed it carried up stairs to my 2-stories up office - but try it first before ordering. We are all built differently. The Leap lumbar support hurt my back, this one is perfectly positioned and is comfortable. It has fewer adjustments than other comparable chairs, but the adjustments it does have suit me. It may not suit you. I like the tilt and only wish you could lock the seat in tilt position, but that feature seems to be a thing of the past. Only one chair I tried had that but it was rejected for other reasons. Guess that goes back to sitting up straight and not using the chair as a recliner. 2115|RV7D6652FV84K;2115|R1VEUXRQY49ENM;2115|R1O1LINMQXVKZ7;
