Each story is heartfelt and tender, yet so packed full of truth and direction, that the point would be very hard to miss. And that point is: None of us have perfect fathers, and yet in each one of them is a sign pointing us to our Heavenly Father. Whether your dad ever said he loved you or not, whether he was even around as you grew up, you can see God at work in each one of these stories. And you can see a little bit of yourself, and of your physical father, in each tale. Enjoy the stories. Share them with someone you love. Buy a copy for your father, and your father-in-law, and for every man in your life who has demonstrated a father's love. And thank God for these father figures in our lives, who make us who we are, and who show us the love of our Father in Heaven.

Okay, the truth is I'm a contributing writer in The Embrace of a Father. But man, what an honor to be included. First, I fell in love with the cover of Wayne Holmes's, The Embrace of a Father. Then I admired Holmes's honesty in the introduction--"I haven't always been the perfect father. In fact, I've never been a perfect father. I tried, but too often I failed." After reading the first story, I almost dared the words to contiue to deliver emotion. But over and over the writing welled up in my throat. Don't bother trying not to cry. While reading fifty-three short story chapters, I was never disappointed. Though this book will look lovely on your coffee table, it serves a higher calling--reading The Embrace of a Father draws us back to our Heavenly Father as we discover how earthly fathers reveal glimpses of His unfailing, unconditional, sacrificial love.

This is undoubtedly one of the finest personal experience collections I have ever read. Compiler Wayne Holmes did an outstanding job of gathering stories that offered variety, yet clearly showed how fathers can reflect the love and caring of our Heavenly Father. I hope the book becomes a million-seller. It has the power to change lives.
