dynamic & detailed psychedelic rock,
By Charlie Quaker "The Quaker Goes Deaf" (Normal, IL.) - See all my reviews

This is a subtle & stunning debut album from this San Francisco band. There's a weirdly dynamic psychedelic
landscape in a desolate sea of guitars that's dark & beautiful, with the occasional noise overload and flourishes of lurid energy, all delivered with emotional grit & intimate attention to detail. References are Black Mountain, Loop, Jefferson Airplane, Drones, White Hills, Comets On Fire, Citay, Dead Meadow.

Sleepy Sun - 'Embrace' (ATP Recordings),

Six-piece indie / psych band's first (of two, so far anyway) CD and every bit as good as it's follow-up 'Fever' (see my review). Tracks that managed to pull me right in were the seven-minute opener "New Age", the group's namesake "Sleepy Sun", "White Dove" which sort of reminds me of Bardo Pond, "Snow Goddess" and the well-played "Duet With The Northern Sky" that more than showcases the near-brilliance of Bret Constantino's and Rachel William's (doesn't look like she was on the previously mentioned 'Fever' CD) pipes. Also liked "Golden Artifact". Definitely, a should-have.
