Cherish every minute of your existence!,

If you visit Shirley Cheng's website, you'll soon discover she is a very unique individual with an inspirational story that will definitely touch you in some way. Shirley was born in 1983 and diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis before she was even one year old. Due to years of hospitalization in both China and America, Shirley received no formal education until she was eleven years old. In public school, she suffered from abuse at the hands of public school aides. At the age of seventeen, she lost her eyesight. Today, Shirley is a motivational speaker, poet, and an author of a handful of books all available through Amazon.Shirley's book, Embrace Ultra-Ability, presents over 20 chapters of the author's own personal advice on focusing in on the world around you in order to achieve personal success. From learning to appreciate nature to developing your own spirituality, Shirley teaches the reader to focus on the simple everyday parts of life that those of us who are not handicapped often take for granted. My favorite chapter in the book is called "A Matter of Time." Shirley begins the chapter by asking the reader if they would like the power to look into the future. Who wouldn't? Psychic power is something many of us seek out as a novelty, astounded when predictions often do come true, a power many of us wish we had. However, Shirley embraces the opposite. "But after carefully considering it, I would like to keep the future a secret instead," Shirley writes. Why spoil the surprise of life, she stresses. She continues: "While we hope for a bright tomorrow, we need to capture our time right now before it slips away between the cracks of everyday rushes. The best way to capture time is to cherish every minute of your existence." Yep, it's a broad realization, right? But so true. I often dread facing another work week when Monday gets here, anxious for the weekend, only to look back and wonder where the weeks went to because they flew by so fast. And so is life, passing me by quicker and quicker every year, which is why I found Shirley's book to be a nice bit of encouragement to take time out everyday, slow down, and appreciate the simple things in life I am fortunate enough to have. Embrace Ultra-Ability is not a sad book written by someone who is misfortunate and asking for your sympathy. Sure, her words and story are truly compassionate and will definitely touch you, but Ms. Cheng is a motivational and kindred spirit that we can all learn from. The title of her book says it all. We should ignore our inabilities in life, and turn them into ultra-abilities that will work in our favor and make us a better person. I have no doubt that reading this book is a great start to achieving just that!

In a society that is self absorbed, unjustly critical and judgmental; out comes an honest and humble perspective from a young, prophetic muse, whose inner perception is astounding."Embrace Ultra-Ability!" - defines the very essence that truly needs to exist in all of us. We have no place for pity within our lives after reading about the determination, resilience and extreme faith Shirley holds towards her life and her experience. The courage to share her understanding in anticipation others will follow, is a sheer sign of true leadership and accountability. And as a matter of fact, each teenager should be given this book in High School as a basis from which to build their values, morals and gratitude toward life. With what we view as set-backs, Ms. Cheng views her challenges as monuments of growth and turns them in to the highest of accomplishments and achievements. I honor her endurance and envy her strength. Very well done...What is next Ms. Cheng?

Grand Synopsis of Success,
By
This review is from: Embrace Ultra-Ability! Wisdom, Insight & Motivation from the Blind Who Sees Far and Wide (Paperback)
I was impressed with the scope of this material. Cheng manages to doa more than credible job of addressing nearly every roadblock to personal success, in fact, she clearly defines core issues and gives steps to surround them and successfully incorporate them into our beingness. My favorites were near the end of the book where she has several chapters dealing with setting goals and attaining them--or not. Her candor and honesty allow us to see ourselves in all our humanity and majesty, accepting, pushing forward two steps, one step back, enjoying, rejoicing for the chance and the chances, always more chances. I recommend this book to conscious people in the act of living the best life possible.

A gentle nudge toward your own empowerment,
By Malcolm R. Campbell "The Sun Singer" (Northeast Georgia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Embrace Ultra-Ability! Wisdom, Insight & Motivation from the Blind Who Sees Far and Wide (Paperback)
"This small book is simply a tender nudge," writes Shirley Cheng in the opening chapter of this joyful volume that combines the basics of faith and positive thinking into a gentle guide that's well-illustrated by the author's experience. In this 167-page trade paperback, Cheng nudges the reader via a wide variety of personal development topics from the value of time and typical time wasters to our predilection for dwelling upon "what ifs" to following the light and building a firm foundation for spiritual success. Cheng asks us to be daring and enjoy life. "It's important to take risks," she writes. "Taking risks allows you to explore, discover, and learn new things; it brings you to a whole new road you have never before traveled." Cheng's own journey as a blind and physically disabled award-winning author serves as a unifying inspiration throughout the book. She wrote about the rocky road of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, her trips to China for treatments unavailable in the United States, the loss of her sight when she was 17 to her debut as an author and advocate in "The Revelation of a Star's Endless Shine" in 2005. Rather than breaking new ground in the realm of empowerment and spirituality, Cheng serves as the wise and patient coach who has traveled that new road before and knows the territory. She enthusiastically urges us forward, step by positive step, toward becoming "Ultra-Abled."

Having The Grace To Embrace Life,
By Alan Gettis "Author of The Happiness Solution... (River Edge, NJ USA) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Embrace Ultra-Ability! Wisdom, Insight & Motivation from the Blind Who Sees Far and Wide (Paperback)
The prolific, award-winning author Shirley Cheng offers a detailed road map to the good and meaningful life. It will not be the answer for all, but it may be for many. Her main thesis is presented early in the book:"When you have accepted God and all the virtues He supplies, you will become ultra-abled. If you use His treasures with love, care, and wisdom, you will become ultra-abled. If a wealthy man gives you a sack of precious gemstones, but you do not realize their value and how to use them, what good would they do you? You have the power to disable yourself or enable yourself, so which road would you choose? I have chosen to be ultra-abled, for I am a treasure collector: I pick up the gems God graciously gives in full abundance. With these gifts, I am able to make choices in my life that could lead me to the road of happiness, strength, and success." There is some dogmatism in the sense that she is talking specifically about Jehovah and accepting Him and his son Jesus Christ. This will not necessarily work for Buddhists, Muslims, Jews, agnostics, atheists, and people of faiths that embrace other beliefs. However, that being said, I think that there are important messages in this book that need to be heard and paid attention to. Cheng writes passionately and from the heart in a very caring way. She wants you to get it - to get the message that can change your life for the better by getting you to discover your ultra-ability. People of any persuasion can benefit from reading her ideas on love, faith, hope, gratitude, and values. "Embrace Ultra-Ability! Wisdom, Insight & Motivation from the Blind Who Sees Far and Wide" contains many gems. Shirley Cheng uses all her gifts as a teacher and poet to help you learn to let go of negativity and dance with the positive, the beautiful, and the meaningful.

Recommended,
This review is from: Embrace Ultra-Ability! Wisdom, Insight & Motivation from the Blind Who Sees Far and Wide (Paperback)
There are a lot of self-help and self-improvement books out there, which is no surprise considering the world we live in. Most tend to focus on changing our perception of the world--you adopt a more positive outlook on life, you will go far in it. The problem is choosing one that fits you. Shirley Cheng's Embrace Ultra-Ability! Wisdom, Insight & Motivation from the Blind Who Sees Far and Wide is indeed another self-help and self-improvement book, and it does focus on changing your attitude towards life, but what makes it stand out from the rest is its author's faith, own disabilities, and writing style. Her belief in God is prominent throughout the book. It seems to be addressed to Christians, firm or faltering, but she does not condemn anyone like a "fire and brimstone" preacher. Readers will be treated to practical self-improvement advice without being treated like sinners. Cheng also shares her own situation with readers; she is blind and confined to a wheelchair, but she never sounds defeated despite her disabilities. Readers will be able to understand Cheng's message thanks to her clear and simple writing peppered with colorful, non-cliched metaphor. No psychiatric jargon will plague them.Cheng is no doctor or licensed expert in the psychiatric field. Instead, she is an expert in keeping a positive attitude because of her own experience. Her overall message to readers is "If I can be happy despite my disabilities, you can, too." Although her Christian faith may turn off some readers, others will appreciate her message.

Fantastic Uplifting Guide,

This review is from: Embrace Ultra-Ability! Wisdom, Insight & Motivation from the Blind Who Sees Far and Wide (Paperback)
"Embrace Ultra-Ability" by Shirley Cheng is a powerful book that demonstrates a spiritual insight I have not seen in a person as young as she is. By skillfully intertwining her spiritual insights with her personal story, she is able to explain how every one has the ability to enjoy a happy, loving and prosperous life full of rich rewarding journeys. A person can not read this book and in reality ever "feel sorry for themselves" again. I highly recommend this book for those seeking ways to embrace every aspect of their lives and develop them to serve others.Rowena Holloway, Co-Author of the Pray it Forward trilogy.
