5.0 out of 5 stars The next level
Iwaki and Katou are cast in opposing tv shows; their demanding schedules keep them apart and put a strain on their relationshp. Katou decides to take drastic action (hot sex in the parking lot) to bring him close to Iwaki.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not worth buying
The plot is good, with each volume my interest in the couple and their lives grew. But it's not worth buying because BeBeautuful (the company with released the Embracing Love volumes) did a poor job. A scanlation group could do a job that is 10 times better.

This romantic yaoi gets better with every volume, as we get to know the characters more and their relationship goes through realistic bumps (such as careers, time management and family problems). Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love at it's Best!, February 2, 2007
This review is from: Embracing Love 4 (Paperback)
This story just keeps getting better and better! when they are in the car and Iwaki wants to wait until they get home Katou tells him he can't wait another second thats what I call lust in true form. In The other chapter when Katou looks at Iwaki and tells him to remove his clothes and then says he's kidding and Iwaki tells him he'll do it because he wants to erase any doubts. that lets you know he really is in love with Katou even if he is unwilling to say it in words. Buy the book, you won't be sorry!

The plot is good, with each volume my interest in the couple and their lives grew. But it's not worth buying because BeBeautuful (the company with released the Embracing Love volumes) did a poor job. A scanlation group could do a job that is 10 times better.

For one thing, they keep cutting too much of the pages (from what reason I wouldn't know) so that important parts of the image are missing, like characters' faces.

In some places the text was typed in the wrong bubbles. I was surprised; don't they have anyone to check those things?

The translation. The translation is the jewel in the crown, and not in a good way. BeBeautiful actually dared to change the translation ON PURPOSE! They must have thought that if they write them saying some dirty things during sex it would make the scene hotter and people would like it more. Well, they were wrong. In volume 4 they had some translation mistakes but to have the nerve to change the translation on purpose? This is a new level of unprofessional work. If it wasn't there from he beginning that means that there was a reason to that. And the reason is that it's completely out of character, they would have never said it, it gives a different look on the whole scene, meaning: ruins it. And in book 4 those alters were COMPLETELY out of place.

There are some people (like me) who buy the books to read the most accurate translation and most professional. Imagine my disappointment when I saw how much they ruined every sex scene Youka Nitta drew. If I were the author I would have sued them for corrupting my work.

4.0 out of 5 stars Volume 4, January 19, 2007

This review is from: Embracing Love 4 (Paperback)
If you've loved Embracing Love up to this point, you will continue to enjoy the series in volume 4. There are numerous love scenes, many of which attempt to keep the reader from getting bored with the half a dozen such scenes each volume. In a car, on a table and standing in the tatami room of their home are the "exotic" locales for the sessions in this volume. Iwaki even tops in one scene. I only mention it because it really isn't much of a spoiler to know it is going to happen, and for Iwaki fans it might just be a selling point. The scene is rather sweet.

The premises of the chapters are simple and often involve trivial misunderstandings between Iwaki and Katou's personalities that are of course, corrected as they undress one another or after they get dressed again afterwards. Each episode could stand by itself as a nice little short story, but they feed into one another nicely. Just when you think a story route may have hit a dead end, it is mentioned again in the next chapter to reassure us readers that Nitta has neither forgotten nor decided to leave us hanging about it.

A new character is introduced to try to stick a wedge inbetween our heroes, and unlike some of the previous characters who fit this role, this guy hasn't been found out by the end of volume 4, so we can expect to see more of this storyline in volume 5.

The book ends with an interesting extra story about Sawa (author of "Embracing Love" within "Embracing Love"). I do have to question the nature of Sawa and Yukihito's relationship at this stage, though. Sawa seems to be restraining himself, and Yukihito seems interested, but it is clear he is much too young at this point in the story and Nitta doesn't ever delve into that territory, leaving the end kind of open to interpretation about the nature of the two's relationship at that point.

Again, if you love this series, then I recommend continuing. If you aren't familiar with the series you might want to start with an earlier volume as the characters are in a comfortable place where things are not explained as readily as they were in the early chapters. Now, if only BeBeautiful could be depended upon to release titles more often than twice a year, things would be perfect.

3.0 out of 5 stars pleasant, October 10, 2007

This review is from: Embracing Love 4 (Paperback)
This fourth episode was a rather pleasant surprise:

after the third one, one could expect the story of the two young actors to have been exhausted.

On the contrary the author manages -somehow- to keep a good amount of tension: one is now familiar with the two main characters and one can appreciate their interaction fully. They keep on being over the top but they feel human, likeable and real.

The plot is not particularly inventive but does not need to be: it flows smoothly to the end.

Sex scenes have never been particularly exciting in this serial nor they become such here. They do not disturb, though.

The bonus story about Sawa is just that trifle too melodramatic and exagerated. It adds nothing to the booklet's worth.

Our two lovers are living together now, with the occasional personal issue popping up to cause a bit of trouble. I really, really enjoy the artwork and the storyline. Looking forward to reading the entire series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Adult Yaoi at its Best, March 24, 2007
This review is from: Embracing Love 4 (Paperback)
I have to admit I am a huge fan of Youka Nitta's Embracing Love. Her unique art has its critics, but I find her extremely detailed art realistic and pleasing, and find the men she draws to be very attractive. Embracing Love was mostly written as individual short stories in an anthology but when compiled into a volume, it flows beautifully. There's plenty of love, emotion, and sex, making it a truly great Japanese yaoi aimed at adult readers. I highly recommend it! (One warning - I would stay away if you like very soft yaoi because it's quite explicit)

Love, emotion, and sex tie this collection of short stories together as we follow the lives of two lovers. The artwork adds even more to the beautiful story.
