Editorial Reviews

Review

"Schneider and Corley are two of the unsung heroes of the recovery movement. Their book on disclosure and families is making a huge difference in the lives of addicts everywhere. Combined with the wisdom of Dr. Richard Irons, they have produced an extraordinary book which will ease the recovery of those dependent on drugs and alcohol." --Patrick Carnes, Ph.D., author of "Out of the Shadows."

"Corley, Schneider, and Irons present a very practical approach to understanding the disease of addiction and what is essential for healthy recovery. They highlight both the deception and destruction the disease represents and the concepts critical for recovery consolidation and maintenance. This book will be very useful for those making changes in their lives." --Raju Hajela, M.D., Past President, Canadian Society of Addiction Medicine

"This book is the right mix of information, reflection, and recovery support for each stage of change and will be a popular resource for addiction treatment. The late Dr. Richard Irons' last book is a gentle, client-affirming book that has been lovingly completed as he intended -- a fitting legacy for one of the pioneers in addiction medicine." --A.J. Reid Finlayson, M.D., Addiction Medicine Div., Vanderbilt U School of Medicine

This review is from: Embracing Recovery from Chemical Dependency: A Personal Recovery Plan (Workbook) (Paperback)
Dr. Corley and Dr. Schneider have done a great job of providing a format for written step work from chemical dependency. The book offers many insights and opportunities to expand on what most people use in writing step assignments. There is much to learn for any addiction in this book and I highly recommend it.

This review is from: Embracing Recovery from Chemical Dependency: A Personal Recovery Plan (Workbook) (Paperback)
As a substance abuse/mental health clinician, I find this book extremely helpful in addressing the benefits/consequences of using, the biopsychosocial aspects of the disease of addiction, and other topics, including creating a realistic relapse prevention plan. The reading material and assignnments are great for either an individual client completing a treatment plan task/assignment or for a group assignment, as an educational module. I highly recommend this book. My personal favorite chapter is "Denial, and other forms of brain trickery".
