Book Description

August 4, 2009

Here’s a fresh take on embroidery and jewelry making! Using some 30 hand and machine embroidery techniques, textile artist Shirley Anne Sherris guides readers through ten jewelry projects, including a floral necklace created from layers of sheer fabrics and a bracelet made from metal rings and covered with colorful embroidered patches. There’s rich technical information, from how to calculate sizes to innovative uses for beads and sequins. Fabric choices range from sheers and cut lace to felt and leather, and the unexpected creative touches include incorporating such found objects as metal bits and garden mesh.

Editorial Reviews

Review

This is a subject I thought I would not be interested in. It will open your eyes to the possibilities of just what can be achieved. Embroidered jewellery explores a variety of materials in innovative and interesting ways. This book is a little treasure trove of ideas and inspirations. Just looking at the materials section of base fabrics and embellishments will fill you with awe. All types of jewellery form cuffs to collars and earrings are included in this book. Find out how to create unique jewellery using all those modern fabrics such as Angelina fibre and Lazertran. Find innovative uses for things you never thought of making jewellery out of such as kebab skewers. I think some of the projects work better than others - but once you have learned the techniques in this book, it's up to you to create. This book is of the same very high standards that we always see from Batsford/Anova books - great attention to detail, excellent photography and good, clear instructions. http://www.karenplatt.co.uk

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, November 14, 2009

Love this book! Eye candy for embellished jewelery for sure! A great book for fiber artists for inspiration and for creating some of the projects. It's not a book for a beginner but certainly is refreshing for those who are more experienced working with different mediums.

2.0 out of 5 stars for fabric artists, not hand embroiderers, November 30, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Embroidered Jewellery (Hardcover)
I'm disappointed as I thought this book was about making jewellery out of embroidery. It's really about making jewellery out of fabric with machine embroidered edges. I should have picked up on the clues in the books description...the author is a textile artist, it mentions fabric and fabric choices...but I didn't put it together till after the book was here. The book is beautiful, full color, etc. But it's for textile artists. Fabric takes the center stage with machine embroidery used as accents, highlights or to keep the edges from unraveling.
