Too Bad Better Prints Were Not Used, November 17, 2009

I have waited a long time to find a copy of 'Where Have All The People Gone'. I am glad to have found one but am just sorry that the print that was used for this DVD could not of come from a cleaner copy. Or even better, a remastered print. But at lease this copy being on disc can't get any worse. Unlike an old tape. Which yes, I did buy a used copy a while ago.
That pro tape and this DVD used the same print.
I haven't seen this made-for-TV-movie for many yrs. But remembered I really liked it quite a lot. It's core story was very good and even today the main theme holds up. And to me it's one of Peter Graves best movies. But I have never seen him do a bad one either..lol
As for the other movie on this DVD 'Embryo'. I can't remember ever seeing this one. And sadly the film print used for this movie is even poorer condition. And as for all the cute 'extras'. The 2 cartoons and handful of old TV ads. These are all from very poor prints. Too bad.
This company '{whim I have never heard of before} didn't try to hard to get better copies of anything. But I will say that if this is the only way to get a legit DVD copy of this movie {'Where Have All The People Gone'}. Well then I am glad I have it and would say go a head a buy a copy when you can find one. And who knows. Maybe someday we fans of this movie(s) and other M4TV movies can see a remastered version make it to disc.
I want to add one more thing. I would love to see a whole lot of the 60's and 70's M4TV movies get a full remastering all get DVD release. There were so many really good ones made back then. It;s a shame not to share them with those who want to see them again and again.
Maybe one day.

Nice to catch up with an old favorite, August 19, 2011

I remember "Where Have All The People Gone?" (WHATPG) from way back when and enjoyed seeing it again.
Was there ever a time when Peter Graves didn't have gray hair? He is convincing and sympathetic in the lead role. Apart from that, it was good to see stalwart performances from a solid supporting cast. Particularly striking are the very young Kathleen Quinlan and actor Noble Willingham, whom I had otherwise only seen in "The Royale", a rather good episode of "Star Trek: The Next Generation".
The story is pretty routine, but absorbing enough for all that. The music is adequate.
"The Embryo", on the other hand, was new to me and most of it still is. I turned it off after only 20 minutes or so. Rock Hudson looks embarrassed and the story is just plain silly.
So, three stars for this disc then - all of them for WHATPG.

SCI FI CLASSICS, October 28, 2007

A double pack of classic sci fi movies from the 1970s. Embryo is an above
average tale of genetic manipulation but my favourite is Where Have All the People Gone? with Peter Graves. This movie chilled me years ago when
I saw it on TV as a young kid and tells of a passing comet that reduces
most of the population to dust and leaves the rest as zombies, which one
surviving family must avoid to reach safety. Great low budget fun.
