5.0 out of 5 stars I highly recommend this CD. January 20, 2012
Format:Audio CD
If you love new music, or have a sense of adventure and crave new and creative works of art, this CD should be in your collection. I find this music far more engaging than most contemporary music releases. It was primarily written, performed and recorded outside both mainstream venues and academic settings, and to me this has given me the impression of a composer who has found and developed his own voice, his own style, and mounted this generous deluxe 2-CD endeavor entirely on his own terms, his personal sacrifice, and his vision. The integrity of his music is helped by surprisingly consistent impressive performances; I say surprisingly, because all too often new works are not given the preparation and passion they deserve, especially from an otherwise unknown composer. And although I occasionally sense shades and influences of other composers, it is undeniably Keith Kramer. This CD sits proudly alongside the works of the 20th Century's giants (and lesser-known geniuses and personal favorites of mine) and is a gem to own, not to be missed. You won't be disappointed.

(I was planning on doing a track by track but at this rate might turn into a very long review, so I might update/edit this later, folks.)

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing collection. December 14, 2011
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I bought this knowing that the music would be based in classical style, but the addition of modern riffs and tones made the depth of these pieces unbeliveable. The tracks incorporate so many different genres, that while they are fresh, there is still a timeless quality to the album. Truly a CD to enjoy when you are craving inspiration!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful adventure December 4, 2011
Format:Audio CD
A wonderful adventure. An enormous range of experiences are contained in a collection of works that is at the same time cohesive. From the subtle to the overt, from the minimal to the complex, with contrasts within single works and between works, each piece is satisfying by itself but particularly exciting when experienced as part of the collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly mind-blowing! August 16, 2012
Format:MP3 Music
Emerge is an immense collection of new music, chronicling some of Keith Kramer's greatest compositional achievements to date. The vast array of textures and sonorities provides a home for every kind of listener. Works included range from solo piano compositions to symphonies, harp and saxophone duets, and even a few electronic works. While some tracks are sparse and chilling, others are frantic and exhilarating. One of the things that makes Dr. Kramer's work so captivating is his adventurous use of extended playing techniques, coaxing each instrument out of its idiomatic comfort zone to create sounds that transcend the listener's every expectation. Each piece is recorded with amazing clarity in a variety of naturally resonant environments, and many are engineered and mixed by Keith Kramer himself.

Perhaps one of the most interesting parts of owning this two-disc set is listening to the music while reading the composer's own program notes. It gives one the slightest peek into the boundless mind of a genius. And, of course, you can't help but notice the superhuman abilities of the various performers on this record. Instrumentalists such as pianist Joseph Satava and flutist David LaVorgna, just to name a couple, execute disgustingly virtuosic passages with the kind of ease that makes me want to abandon all hopes of playing music myself.

This is an eye-opening record perfect for avid listeners of classical and new music as well as for those looking to expand their listening experience. Even as I was first being exposed to the genre, I always felt that Keith Kramer's compositions were more accessible than those of many other contemporary classical composers. Don't miss out on this album, or you'll be toast!
