4.0 out of 5 stars Works. Cheap. Teeny
I bought this to try out Skype. I hadn't ever tried it and was absolutely expecting crap quality of the connections. I was totally wrong.

Further, I was wrong about this headset. I am amazed - really - at how well it works. It's not perfect, but it's a lot like a wired car kit. People can hear background noise. But it's simple, clear, and it was cheap...

I searched long and hard for a wired headset w/mic to use with VOIP on my netbook. The device had to be super-compact with easily stowable cords and had to work decently. My purpose for having this device is as a substitute for when my Jabra Bluetooth headset is not charged or other-wise unusable. This device fills the bill in most respects. The two shortcomings are 1)poorly fitting earpiece 2)inconsistant cord-length lock mechanism. The cord-length lock is getting better over time and I was able to fix the ear fit problem by replacing the provided ear-gel with a spare Jabra ear-gel. Much better! Sound quality (sending & receiving) is not stellar but is acceptable.

Great way to try Skype. And great thing to toss into my laptop bag to make calls. It works!

1.0 out of 5 stars Completely useless, October 11, 2009

I can only assume that the majority of other reviews here are false and written by a marketing company, for the length of cord and sound quality are completely inconsequential when you consider the fact that the earpiece *does not fit in your ear.* Don't get me wrong here, I don't have some weird ear physiology - my cell earpiece fits fine, my mp3 earbuds fit fine, but this thing isn't shaped for a human ear, nor does it allow the addition one of those little foam covers for a more snug fit.

I'm actually more annoyed at being misled by these reviews than I am about the poor quality of the product; shame on people who do this.

I bought it because of the retractable cord. Well, it doesn't work and creates a mess. And the sound quality is miserable.

I was looking for mono headset to use with Skype phone on my home laptop. I bought and returned three other headsets made by small companies from Radio Shack and Fry's. All those had low quality speakers or weak microphones, and also did not sit tight on the ear (dangling). Then I recalled that I already have high quality retractable stereo headset with crisp sound and very good mike at work so I looked at the brand name and it was retractable headset from Emerge Technology. So I went to their website and discovered that they make mono headset also with premium sound so I ordered one from Amazon. It is indeed high quality headset. You can even use it to listen music. Mike is terrific - sound is crisp and clear. The only problem - ear bud does not seat tight on ear, like say on Jabra or other brand name headsets. I would suggest making this ear bud more ergonomic and thenit will be perfect very compact headset. But it still sits much better that other nonbrandname headsets I bought I returned.

3.0 out of 5 stars does the job, June 20, 2011

It works well enough...the retractable mechanism works if you pull both sides at the same time. I learned this the hard way on my first try. Sound quality is average, even considering the type of headset this is. The biggest drawback is that the ear piece doesn't stay in my ear very well...but everyone's fit will be different.

the soft ear piece torn off after a short period of use. the seller refunded my money as soon as i reported the problem. i would buy from the same seller again but they need to do some quality control on their merchandise.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice little headset., November 18, 2009

The retractable headset is just perfect for something to throw into your travel kit, but the earbud does not sit well. You will need to purchase replacement an earbud pad set like from Eforcity (Premium Clear or Smoked Universal Earbud Pad Set) or ACOUSTIBUDS Premium Adapters. The Acoustibuds are just great and it feels into the ear canal, BUT you will have to keep the original padding in place because they are a bit big for the earbud. The Eforcity is a cheaper alternative and they have different types of earbuds, but don't have a comment on them. Overall the headset is a good item.

This review is from: Emerge Technologies Retractable Earbud with In-Line Mic for VOIP Calling Computer Headset with Microphone (ETAUDIOVOIP) (Personal Computers)
Sound quality is decent, the mic works very well. Length is a tad on the short side. The rubber ear cover torn very easily and not the ear piece doesn't stay in very well. It would've been better if they had the ear plug type ear piece. But still, not bad for the price.
