I enjoyed Emergence 3. It is full of suspense and thought-provoking ideas. The book moves back and forth from the action associated with the discovery of prehistoric creatures in Louisiana to scientific dialogue which attempts to understand what is happening on the ground in Louisiana.

Justice Hawk captures the professional banter between scientists well; he describes the limits of creativity and discovery that are put on everyone in any administrative structure. I enjoyed how the scientists carefully reveal their ideas to each other;through his dialogue, he shows the constraints that bureaucracy and administrative structure and procedure put on knowledge.

This book is ambitious; Justice Hawk connects language, history, psychology,philosophy, metallurgy, astronomy,nuclear science (as well as probably other disciplines)in a way that is both exciting and unsettling.

The Emergence series proposes a scenario which confronts head-on the premise provided by Plato's tripartite soul with reason governing spirit (emotions) and the appetite. As the trilogy unfolds, the scenario compels us to rethink not so much whether or not Plato was right, but why other options have been discounted or suppressed.

It cannot be understated that Plato's tripartite soul acts as the supporting pillar to the entire entablature of Western Civilization. If Plato's premise proves faulty, then the last 2500 years of debate dissipates into dust. Succinctly, our perception of reality is entirely incorrect.

By the time that the reader concludes Emergence 3, the other options should induce the measure of our fruitlessness over the last two millennia. Though Postmodernists have hinted to a failure of reason, the Emergence series should add the final punctuation mark. Our part in the Universe is quite different from what we have enticed and intoxicated ourselves into believing.
