Book Description

February 22, 2008
The convergence of technology that accelerates the power of relationships and facilitates dynamic communications-- peer to peer and to entire communities--is revolutionary to say the least. The book examines the factors that are influencing the emergence of The Relationship Economy.

The book defines The Relationship Economy as: "The people and things we are connected with in our personal networks who or that distribute or consume our capital, which in turn influences our individual production outputs." The book analyzes the factors that are influencing an emerging economy based on the sum of factors driving massive and significant changes to the way everyone will work, play, and live.

This emergence will have an especially profound effect on businesses and individuals. While individual factors are self-evident, the collective factors, taken as a whole, are the basis for individual conclusions for strategic opportunities that can be gained from the new economy.

The book provides the knowledge, tools and suggested skills necessary for improved comprehension of the strategic issues required to succeed in The Relationship Economy, and provides the context of actions that enable success. It covers an emerging opportunity for the global community of users/consumers/prosumers/citizens, consumer brands, corporations, non-governmental organizations and governments to play a critical role in forging this new carbon neutral economy: The Relationship Economy.

This book details an emerging economy, driven by factors that are affecting massive changes to the way people work, play, and live. This emergence will have an especially profound effect on business. While individual factors are self-evident, when taken collectively, they are the basis that individuals use to identify strategic opportunities to be gained from the new economy.

Starting with a foreword by Doc Searls, Co-Author of 'The Cluetrain Manifesto', this book is a foundational resource for individuals and entities to use as each begins to plan for participation in the accelerated changes brought on my technological advances of the World Wide Web. The goal of the book is to enable all parties to gain perspectives, knowledge, and insights as to the dynamics of technology, the impact of changes brought on by the social Web, and what factors should be considered for the purposes of planning for success.

Socialcomputing and the medium of social networks are creating a revolution that is similar to the industrial revolution of the 19th century in its impact on commerce, but on a global scope. This communication revolution includes the development of advanced communications tools and proxies, such as Skype.

Today politics, products, and services are virtually consumer/prosumer/user-led developments. Google is a major example of a user-generated brand where the users have suggested and embraced enhancements. Current technology is so pervasive that it has become quite significant in the political realm. With cutting-edge communication systems, national political groups and institutions in the United States of America are lobbying with influential bloggers to inform and educate the voter, as well as impact public opinion. There is an opportunity for the global community of users, consumers, prosumers, citizens, consumer brands, corporations, non-governmental organizations, and governments to play a critical role in forging this new carbon-neutral economy, The Relationship Economy (Searls, 2007).

5.0 out of 5 stars Social networking... fad or function?, March 4, 2008
This review is from: The Emergence of The Relationship Economy: The New Order of Things to Come (Paperback)
Social networking is here to stay. It's not just a fad waiting on "the next big thing." In fact, I think it IS the next big thing and will continue growing and changing into ever-increasing beneficial tools. However, social networks are just that; they are tools -- a hammer waiting upon a carpenter's arrival. We are the carpenters to these tools because we create and essentially become the content. Without the content, social networks are doomed for failure. It's first time in IT history when software has become dependent upon the user, rather than vice versa. This book discusses how relationships form through social networking tools and the economies they create in the process. It's recommended reading for anyone developing social networking tools or just interested in the social networking phenomenon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great insights in the potential of social networks, November 11, 2009
By
H.J. van der Klis (Balkbrug, Overijssel Netherlands) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Emergence of The Relationship Economy: The New Order of Things to Come (Paperback)
De auteurs van The Cluetrain Manifesto, waarin de stelling 'markets are conversations' werd geponeerd, pakken door in The Emergence of the Relationship economie. Zij zien dit als "The people and things we are connected with in our personal networks, who or that distribute or consume our capital, which in turn influences our individual production outputs.".
