5.0 out of 5 stars Can't stop listening!, February 29, 2008
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Emergence (Audio CD)
Intense, emotional and simply addictive - I'm listening to this album in the car, on the couch and at work. I'll also use it in the cool-down part of my fitness classes. I can't throw out professional music terms - but I can say that the sound effects are stunning, the instrumental & vocal parts pure & beautiful, and goosebumps not a rarity. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Emergence Gorgeously Fuses Elecronica, Atmosphere, Songwriting., March 17, 2008
This review is from: Emergence (Audio CD)
Emergence is a beautifully crafted work from brothers Laurence and Brian. It brings together micro-edited glitcy beats, immersive atmospheres, sweet guitar playing and interesting harmonic material into a surprisingly cohesive whole. Elements of pop here and there draw the listener in deeper for greater rewards. Vocals on a few tracks provide a nice point of focus while still leaving space for the gorgeous sonics. "Terminal A" and "Terminal B" are some of the best contenders for defining 21st Century Dub as can be imagined. A brilliant work - highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Found my groove, March 22, 2008

Because I don't really possess a musical vocabulary, I have to stick with what I know to describe this album: It's a joint (translation: pick it up and put it on repeat). I'm so tried of the typical pop / rap / mainstream radio play and Emergence is welcome shift from the norm. As a hip-hop head, it's opened me up to a whole new sound. "Infiltration" speaks to what I know best by blending a driving, edgy beat with an esoteric, shifty melody. It's the kind of song that could support a vocal but is compelling enough to stand on its own. The vocals on "Lies" and "Broken" are unbelievable; the vocalist's sound reminds me of something between Dido or Bjork (without all the weird rage). I also love "Parks on Fire" because the music has an arch and the composition tells a story. Final analysis: the album combines a range of sonic and melodic nuances that make it both perfect for "mood" listening and so compelling that every few minutes it makes you stop, sit up, and groove.

5.0 out of 5 stars Only Perfection
The album consists of beautiful melodies with just the right beats. The vocals by Amelia June (I did my research) are better than 95% of pop stars in the main stream music... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't stop listening
Typically, even with music I really like, I get tired of it relatively fast, and just set my library to shuffle again. Not with this album. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars A little Orb, a little Burial
I see this as a rather unique combination of the two...definitely recommended. Listen with a sub or headphones, or you miss the massive, eerie low end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vocals are fabulous
Although this first album is a superb example of the power of electronic music to move the soul, the 2 vocals by Amelia Spooner add a unique and lyric flavoring to the mix.

5.0 out of 5 stars Playing on repeat
This album has been stuck in my media player while I work for the last week on repeat. I'm also thinking it'd be great to jam to while putting some mileage on the bike. Read more
