Emergency Encounters,
By Duncan Class EMCA-P1, RPN (Ontario, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Emergency Encounters (Paperback)
Truly, an insider's perspective, a book for every highschool guidance counselor's library. THE book for prospective students thinking of entering the areas of Ambulance, EMS, Paramedics. Also a MUST-READ for anyone NOT familiar with these areas -AND- who must in some capacity oversee or administer them. Also a good review for physicians who may be thinking of becoming a Medical Director of an EMS system. TV shows have glorified the area of prehospital care. They do not portray indepth information on all the numerous subtle aspects of this high stress field. This book gives a very good account of the everyday activities required of ambulance/EMS personnel, including behind the scene activities, thoughts of crews, sociology, and culture. After 20 years in the ambulance/EMS field, this is the only book I've seen that will take the reader to the real heart and soul of this highly stressful profession.
