Book Description

May 21, 2006
This unique electronic book on CD-ROM has an amazing collection of the valuable military medical textbooks published by the Office of the Surgeon General, Borden Institute. The Textbooks of Military Medicine series constitutes a comprehensive, multi volume treatise on the art and science of military medicine. The series is designed to show how military medicine has built on the lessons learned in past wars and, based on this historical context, lays out the scientific and factual basis on which the practice of military medicine is grounded. The spectrum of topics is broad ranging from wound ballistics to medical ethics, and from considerations of harsh environments to applied biomedicine. The Textbooks of Military Medicine series is published by the Borden Institute, Office of The Surgeon General, AMEDD Center & School, US Army. Some of the titles reproduced here include: Emergency War Surgery – This third edition represents an entirely new Handbook. All material is new and revised to reflect lessons learned from ongoing American involvement in Southwest Asia. Drafted by subspecialty experts, it was then updated by surgeons returned from yearlong deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan. Medical Ethics - Explores the ongoing tension between the medical profession and the profession of arms as experienced by the military physician, including an extensive and detailed discussion of the many lessons learned from previous wars. Ophthalmic Care of the Combat Casualty - Offers a comprehensive reference for treatment of ocular injuries; contains detailed information about a new trauma scale, ocular anesthesia, laser injuries, geographical ophthalmology, and ocular injuries caused by terrorist blasts. Includes a step-by-step guide for treatment of ocular injuries, including illustrations of the surgical repair of simple and complex eye injuries. Medical Aspects of Harsh Environments - Describes and illustrates the medical conditions caused by heat and cold, including topics ranging from heat illness prevention to the treatment of hypothermia. Medical Aspects of Chemical and Biological Warfare - With the increasing reality of chemical and biological attacks in war and terrorism, this book is a single-source compendium of the important aspects of chemical and biological agents including descriptions of the agents, and the pathophysiology of the injuries, diagnosis, and management of the injuries. War Psychiatry - Discusses the evolution of the concept of combat stress reaction, the delivery of mental health care on the various battlefields soldiers are likely to experience, and the psychological consequences of having endured the intensity and lethality of modern combat. Military Dermatology - Places military dermatology in its historical context. Emphasizes and illustrates the conditions that specialists and general medical officers in the field are likely to see. Discusses diseases that are uncommon in the United States but prevalent worldwide in specific geographical locations. Medical Consequences of Nuclear Warfare - Addresses the increasingly important medical challenges of the consequences and management of radiation injuries. Also included: Field Manual of Treatment of Biological Warfare Agent Casualties * Field Management of Chemical Casualties Handbook * First Aid Manual updated 2002 * USAMRIID’s Medical Management of Biological Casualties Handbook * Medical Management of Radiological Casualties * NBC Battlebook. This review is from: 21st Century Emergency War Surgery and the Essential Collection of Military Medical Textbooks - Army Textbooks and Manuals (CD-ROM) (CD-ROM)
This CD ROM has much volume of information about treatment at battlezone. But too many information makes difficult to read. I don't recommend it for beginners of military medicine.
