Book Description

Real life medical drama is OK… but true stories of emergency medicine that make you laugh out loud are better!

Mike Cyra's comedic storytelling style of writing is hilarious. Experience what it's like to drive an Emergency Vehicle through traffic. Learn how not to deliver a baby; how to fake unconsciousness; fun ways to chop your fingers off and why controlling your imagination is so crucial, when you find yourself alone in a morgue refrigerator, and the lights go out.Stare death in the face and live to tell about it at the hands of vomiting children, and old women who spit food.

Laughter helps the mind, heals the body and is a critical survival tool for all who deal with death, dying and disaster up close. Emergency Laughter shows that it’s OK to laugh at yourself and the world around you.

Mike Cyra spent twenty years working in Emergency Medicine and Surgery as a Surgical Technologist, an Emergency Medical Technician on ambulances, a Bering Sea Medic and an instructor of Basic Life Support and Maritime Emergency Medicine.

Editorial Reviews

"Mike Cyra is a good friend of mine, and I do want to recommend his new book AND his web site. His book is Emergency Laughter. Mike is a former medic with a great sense of humor AND humanity. I think you will really enjoy this book, if you are-as I am-a fan of real life medical books!

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny! August 10, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Seriously funny situations! I'll admit to being a bit biased. I worked with Mike for eight years on that fish processing ship in the Bering Sea. Mike was pee-your-pants funny then and his humor comes across loud and clear in this book. I want to assure you all that when the fish guts hit the fan, Mike was always 100 percent professional... but the rest of the time? What out!

Buy the book! Mike will pocket enough money to have a beer... and you'll WANT to buy him a beer after reading this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Laugh out load situations! April 26, 2011
By Trina
Format:Kindle Edition
I enjoyed this book from beginning to end. I found myself laughing out loud at some of the situations the author GOT himself into. I could visualize them, as if I were standing there watching it all first hand. This was a very quick read, or it was a quick read, because I found myself not wanting to put it down. Either way, it is a book, that you will enjoy reading. It gives you some insight into the way our EMT's make light of a stressful job.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious! May 22, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book was fun from beginning to end. Since I've worked in the medical field in various jobs, I can relate to the stories the author has told (although I never got myself into the situations he did!) A fast, funny read, would highly recommend for anyone that wants a good laugh or 20.

5.0 out of 5 stars Real Humor on Steroids March 28, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Emergency Laughter is no placebo; it's the real thing, the hard drug of humor that lingers in your brain for eternity. The first chapter will bring you to your knees, the second will kick you in the gut, and the third will lay you flat and totally addicted until the end, leaving you groveling for more. If you love to laugh, and you love to cry, and you love to laugh and cry and scream all at the same time ... this book is your prescription to happiness.

I love Mike Cyra's writing. He puts you through an entire range of emotions.Hystericily funny, shocking and touching all at the same time. It's exciting to peer over the shoulder of this fearless and highly competent EMT as he recounts his tales. It reminds you it takes a certain grit to do be a first responder. No matter how horrific or outrageous the story,Mike relates to the reader thru his humanity and compassion.I highly reccomend this book,it hung in my memory and somehow made me feel a bit more prepared forthe unthinkable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hysterical September 16, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book is a riot! I haven't read anything this funny in a long time. I'm only about halfway through because I was reading it on a plane at night and I was trying to laugh quietly, but there was no way I could keep it quiet. This is brilliantly written. I love how the writer combines the real life drama with what's going on inside his head at the time, combined with his thoughts about the events as he's reflecting back writing this book. We get a very well rounded perspective of the events, which makes the events hysterically funny since you can easily get very clear mental pictures and it's easy to feel the emotions of the situation as things progress. I recommend this book to everyone.
