I'm a practical guy. I just want the useable info without all the esoteric, holistic hand-holding that the advanced degree nurses thrive on. The Emergency Medicine Secrets is an awesome book; the Emergency Nursing Secrets, not so much. I have both. The Nursing Secrets is on the shelf in pristine condition. I have purchased a half dozen Medicine secrets in the last decade, some walk away (EMS dogs), some I give away. My current copy is well used and stained, like all the previous editions I had. The Medicine Secrets series are designed for residents that need to get to the crux of the issue without a ten page review of the basics. You already have textbooks that cover the basics. The book is written in sections by an expert in that area. Taking a class on kidney failure is fine, but 3 months later when you actually have a patient in failure, you remember nada. With the Emergency Medicine book you just flip to that section and review the critical points. It really helps facilitate a better understanding by having the book to refer to when you have the patient in the stretcher. Guys should absolutely get the Medicine version. Girls that want to talk about their favorite nursing theorist might like the Nursing version.
Neither the Medicine or Nursing secrets are quick reference guides for how to perform a specific task.
