Through using this book you can learn a lot and about emergency response planning. The chapters and sections are divided so that you can go right to the section where you need help as you prepare your emergency plan. If you need information on physical or chemical hazards go straight to chapter 5, if you want information of (PPE) personal protective clothing and equipment go to chapter 8, terrorism is covered in chapter 14. It is easy and helpful.
Chapter 4 covers the Incident Command System (ICS) with the breakdown of Command and General Staff and who does what and how it all ties together. For someone just getting started in emergency management planning is important to understand ICS and what each person does.
Appendix G: FEMA Emergency Guide for Business and Industry walks through "What is an Emergency?", What is Emergency Management? And how to make a "Case" for Emergency Management. it lays out the four steps in the planning process: Establishing a Planning Team, Analyzing Capabilities and Hazards, developing the Plan the Implementing the Plan. It gives you lists and checklists and prompts to help you know how to identify you internal and external resources. There is a section of how to conduct a Vulnerability Analysis, list your potential emergencies and estimate probability to prepare to develop the plan
