Product Description

From Children's Software Revue® -- "Subscribe Now!"

All new emergency medical situations await wanna-be doctors in this very tough but entertaining simulation. Kids continue to play doctor while learning about a range of life-threatening emergency room injuries. Poisonings, stab-wounds, pneumonia and other serious conditions are diagnosed and treated. Like the other versions, players start out as medical students and TRY to advance in rank by correctly diagnosing and treating patients. Instruments like the thermometer, blood pressure gauge, pen light, etc., are easier to use than before. You just click on one and drag it over the appropriate body part. It is also possible to order sets of x-rays or take samples of blood and review them in a lab. On the whole, this version of Emergency Room is much easier to use than the last and contains excellent graphics, a very responsive design and a better delineated sequence of play. It also contains three automatically adjusting difficulty levels, but unfortunately, none of these are easy. The program's problems are still significant, as the help necessary for players to succeed is missing, and the highly critical and discouraging advice doled out by doctors simply isn't enough. Step by step instruction on the first few plays would have been welcome. Diagnosis and treatment are still largely based on trial and error. Teen and adult testers were enthusiastic at first, but only the most persistent had any success.

4.0 out of 5 stars Emergency Room is fun, May 14, 2000
This review is from: Emergency Room: Life or Death (CD-ROM)
I purchased this game and I like it a lot. It's great. You run tests on the patient, make a diagnosis, and treat them. It even has a spot where the nurse can give you prompts if your unsure what to do next.

5.0 out of 5 stars ADDICTIVE!!!, May 3, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Emergency Room: Life or Death (CD-ROM)
Being a person who might want to become a doctor one day, this game was fun and educational. I learned a lot about diagnosis and what to do for different cases. The cases were intersting and the "pressure is on". Fun for everyone. VERY ADDICTIVE!

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Emergency Room: Life or Death (CD-ROM)
The plus side is that it isn't a first-person shooter. The minus side is that after a while it feels like "Doctor" (the Hasbro game with the cartoon body and the buzzers) spiced up with quicktime mini-movies.
As a rapidly rising doctor in a busy emergency room you interact with a photo-real patient within the context of Exam Room, Lab, Imaging, and Treatment. As you apply the tools (EKG, and stethoscope, x-ray and blood workup, oxygen and I.V...) to the appropriate body parts, and make the correct entries in your chart, your score rises. At various junctures actor-portrayed characters (the crusty Chief of Staff, the caring young Intern), will speak to you and perhaps share a little of their own story.
