5.0 out of 5 stars love it
This book is needed for my EMT course...what I love about it most is that theres a scratcher inside..once you scratch it you go to their website, use the code and if you have an mp3 player, you can download the audio which reads each chapter word by word!

3.0 out of 5 stars Purchased for EMT-B
I bought this for the EMT-B course offered by TEEX (in Central Texas). If you are looking to save a few bucks, buy a used one that is an older edition. The course syllabus will tell you to get the Tenth Edition only, and that you might also need to get the workbook....but an older edition will work, and the workbook isn't needed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heavy Duty Book, September 22, 2010

I picked this book up for my EMT class. Its just what I expected. The school was charging $125 for the soft cover, so picking this one up for below $80 was a steal, plus its a hardcover. The online modules help out a lot and the entire book includes good illustrations and tables for quick reference. A solid heavy duty text book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Overstuffed with info, disorganized, chaotic, January 23, 2012

(REAL NAME)
I just finished an EMT class that uses this book (10th ed.). I found the book tedious and confusing. I ended up reading the Chapter objectives at the beginning of the chapter to know the DOT standard, then I'd read the "You are the Provider: Summary" to get an overview of the major points, then I'd read the super-condensed summary of points in the "Prep Kit, Ready to Review", followed by the Vocabulary review and finishing it off with the "Test your Knowledge". If I felt I needed more info, I'd read a specific section of the chapter. I discovered this after reading several chapters, start to finish.

I didn't read the bulk of the chapter because the information was too wordy, repetitive, and interrupted by Skill Drills. The authors tried to emphasize a standardized approach to every patient, but in the end, the important details about what I need to know were too watered down. Furthermore, the tables about symptoms, drugs, treatment, etc. were useful, but spread out so it was very difficult to find/re-find information. I feel like the book is trying to entertain me. I just want the facts.

I compare this to the AAOS First Responders (4th ed.) text which has the salient details in a MUCH more compact form. It's true, a little bit more info is useful in the EMT book, but it's so much and so disjoint that it's not useful. I'm using the First Responders book to study for the NREMT exam because it is much more succinct.

The website material is marginally useful. They want you to buy a 180-day subscription to special materials. I call BS!

5.0 out of 5 stars Trusted!, August 20, 2011
I have read this book several times. I also read the bit older Brady manual and also enjoyed the book. This was a great trusted friend through the NREMT and onto licensing. It is highlighted, marked up, and leafed with colored tabs and I had to tape it together with tape it got so much use. It was far more than I needed to get past the NREMT. I give easy and absolute recommendations to this book.
