I like this fryer and have made wonderful fried chicken, doughnuts, buffalo wings and apple fritters. The fried chicken was the best I. Have ever made, and my family is from the south and the Midwest so frying is about all I knew when I left home. My husband is a food snob, and his first words after a bite of the fried chicken were, 'wow, that's not greasy at all'.

This eliminates the cool spots, hot spots, and dangerous splattering that happen trying to fry correctly on a stovetop.

The filtration system is fabulous. I love being able to filter and reuse the oil. After the oil is drained, there is just enough drippings to make some gravy. I love the fryer lid that eliminates any splatter, and the steam that comes out does not seem to be greasy. Unless I am frying on the highest temperature, it doesn't seem to splatter outside of the fryer. On the highest temp, there is very little splatter, but I prefer none so I use the lid.

I put canola oil in for frying as it is a high temp oil, like peanut oil, and its what was easily available.

I marked it down one star for mediocre instructions on the assembly/design. I have seen a couple of reviews where people have oil dripping out of the back or bottom. Out of the back seems highly improbable, if not impossible, unless you pour the oil directly into the machine, rather than the frying 'bowl' inserted into the machine. The instructions aren't great, so someone might actually do this.

Another reviewer said oil was leaking out of the bottom. Again, highly improbable since there are no spouts or anything on the bottom. There is an aperture that looks like a folded down spout that I fiddled with when I went to pour the oil out. Oops, part of the filtration system.

Over the years, I have owned 3 other deep fryers ranging in price. I have never used a fryer as good as this one. I've had it for a bout a week and I have used it nearly every day making anything I can think of.

The fryer's temperature rebound is the best I have experienced in a home fryer. The fryer can return to temperature in less than a minute after making a batch of food. The digital display makes sure that you have it set to the correct temperature. The basket is "family sized" and you can legit make 2 large russet potatoes into fries in just one batch. I put 16 cheese sticks in at one time too and they came out perfect.

The best feature here is the automatic oil filtration and storage system. There is nothing like this in any other residential appliance. You literally flip a switch and once the oil cools down, it drains the oil (while filtering) into a storage reservoir built into the machine. The filtered oil is free of any debris. Also, all the parts (except the element) is dishwasher safe.

GET THIS FOR GAME DAY!!!!

We wanted a small fryer (just my husband and me) that didn't take a ton of oil, was easy to clean and did a great job. This is it! The unit is easy to use, then comes apart to go in the dishwasher. The oil drainage system is brilliant! We've had a couple of other home fryers and had just about given up, but I don't like frying on top of my gas stove. So glad we made this purchase.

Overview:
- Doesn't heat the oil more than about 40° below indicated temperature
- Design concept is acceptable, design quality is poor with too many cost cutting steps
- Overall quality is cheap, typical of budget products from China
- Filtration system works well but needs careful attention and monitoring
- Daily cleanup is quick but thorough cleaning (in case of spills or splashes) requires more effort than simple fryers of the same style
- Capacity is not nearly as much as it sounds

Got it this morning, unpacked, set it up and went frying.

Initial impression is that the sheet metal is fairly thin and most of the hardware has fairly poor tolerances. This is obviously not a professional unit and would probably not hold up to restaurant use very long but for intermittent household use it is probably acceptable.

I had seen in some of the negative reviews that the filter system sometimes leaks so my first test was to put it on a deep cookie sheet and filled it in steps up to the min line. At each step I opened the valve to let the oil drain into the bottom but nothing seemed to be happening. I finally lifted out the oil pan and found that some oil had drained into the container but not much. The oil was too cold (room temperature) to flow properly but at least there were no leaks.

Next test: others have reported that the fryer doesn't maintain a high enough temperature so I turned on the unit and set it to the highest setting, 374°F.
It never got there, remaining instead consistently around 320-340°F as measured with a secondary digital thermometer, even well after the heating had reached set point.

Simple to use, a good fryer for 1 to 2 people. Read and follow the product manual and you can't go wrong. 350 degrees is the optimum temp for Tempura. Use a separate thermometer to make sure it is fully up to temp and fry in small batches. Make sure to dry all items well before frying!! A good Tempura batter is made with one egg beaten well, 2/3 cup ice cold water, and 1 cup flour. Stir well until thickened and don't worry about lumps. Do not over stir! Dip and coat Mushrooms, onion rings, sweet potato slices, and shrimp are mighty tasty this way. I cook by smell rather than timing. When the item frying becomes aromatic, it's time to remove and place on paper towels. Then place items in a warm oven until you have finished the complete meal.

Turn off and un-plug when finished and let the oil cool down to less than 120 degrees before draining. Clean up is very easy with this product. We used canola oil and the unit did not lose any volume of oil at all. The food was light and not oily at all and we both thought it was better than that served at Japanese dining places.

The unit drained and filtered the oil in about 10 minutes. Wipe the residual out with paper towels. I hand wash the tub, lid, oil box, basket, and heating elements. We use a small funnel and pour the filtered oil back into it's original container, then store the oil in a cool place.....not the refrigerator!! Excellent fryer, excellent results provided you follow the instructions...Enjoy!!
