4.0 out of 5 stars An "OK" kids cookbook
I bought the cookbook mainly for myself ( I am Emeril fan), wanting to use it with my daughter when she wanted to be in the kitchen with me. The recipes are really just his "regular stuff", meaning he didn't change anything to make them more desirable for children except for the names of the recipes (ie: Baby Bam Burgers, Little Mean Turkey Loaf, Broccoli with Seriously...

3.0 out of 5 stars A Basic Kids Cookbook
This cookbook would make a good first cookbook for a young chef because it covers all the basic recipes kids love to eat, the book is well written, the recipes are easy to follow, and the food turns out great. But there isn't any recipes in this book that I haven't seen before. I would of preferred real pictures of food over illustrations, it doesn't contain nutritional...

4.0 out of 5 stars An "OK" kids cookbook, April 1, 2002
This review is from: Emeril's There's a Chef in My Soup! Recipes for the Kid in Everyone (Hardcover)
I bought the cookbook mainly for myself ( I am Emeril fan), wanting to use it with my daughter when she wanted to be in the kitchen with me. The recipes are really just his "regular stuff", meaning he didn't change anything to make them more desirable for children except for the names of the recipes (ie: Baby Bam Burgers, Little Mean Turkey Loaf, Broccoli with Seriously Cheesy Sauce, etc.) Only the names make them more desirable to children. Real pictures of the food are not included - they are simply colorful drawings that look real nice. My 7-year-old prefers real pictures of the food so she knows what she's going to be eating - so do I. In all, I like the book for myself to add to my Emeril collection, but my daughter has other kid's cookbook's that she prefers over this one. It's an "OK" kids cookbook. It was a nice attempt at a kids cookbook (the recipes ARE good) but I would reccommend going to the library and borrowing the book before deciding to buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent cookbook for older children, April 3, 2002

This review is from: Emeril's There's a Chef in My Soup! Recipes for the Kid in Everyone (Hardcover)
I have already tried a few of the recipes. They are easy to follow and delicious. I especially enjoy using the "Baby Bam" to kick things up a notch for my son.

He's a little too young to appreciate this book yet, but he sure loves Emeril's chicken nuggets and french toast!

This book really reads well -- you can just hear Emeril talking out loud as you read these recipes. Unlike some cookbooks, this one seems really thorough. I have read all of the recipes and there don't seem to be any missing steps. Everything is carefully explained so young cooks will know what they are doing.

A really great book!

5.0 out of 5 stars FUN AND DELICIOUS...KICKED UP A NOTCH!, January 3, 2003
This review is from: Emeril's There's a Chef in My Soup! Recipes for the Kid in Everyone (Hardcover)
My 9-year-old daughter got this 5 days ago as a Christmas gift. She is interested in cooking and enjoys watching Emeril on TV, so I thought she'd like it. Wow! I think it is the most-used favorite so far of all her gifts! She's already made about 4 of the recipes, with another planned for tonight(I've borrowed it since then as well). They are easy to make and delicious, and I myself prefer it to Emeril's other cookbooks because, while the dishes may not be as sophisticated, the ingredients are usually things found already at home or are easy to pick up at the store (his "adult" recipes often call for more exotic things that are not always easy to come by outside Louisiana!). It also explains things more thoroughly. It is fun to spend time with her, "assisting"; and she's having fun and learning a lot at the same time. Often, it is difficult to get my daughter to sit still long enough to read a book...well, she pored over this one diligently the first night, reading the anecdotes and cooking tips (which are excellent too)! She is becoming quite the chef, and as a family we love the dishes she cooks(especially my very picky 4 year old)! They get a kick out of using the "Baby Bam" just like Emeril! Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Delicious Fun, December 31, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Emeril's There's a Chef in My Soup! Recipes for the Kid in Everyone (Hardcover)
If you want to cook yummy food that is fun and easy to make, then this book is for you. Although the titles of each recipe are a little silly, the food is great, and your friends and family will love it. I recommend the alphabet soup, chili, cupcakes, cinnamon rolls, rotini bake (similar to lasagne), and yes, the garlic bread (so tasty and so addicting!). I have made three complete meals with this cookbook so far (all by myself) and my sister and parents loved them!

5.0 out of 5 stars My 11 year old recommends this book, April 5, 2002

I bought this cookbook for my 11 year old son, because he likes to cook. The directions are easy to follow, and the food tastes good. The book also explains many basic cooking terms so I don't have to always answer the question, "Mom, what does this mean?"!!!! My son's made 4 recipes since we got the book 2 days ago. He's planning to make the Pokey Brownies this afternoon. He really loves the book. And I love it when some one else cooks! Thanks, Emeril.

This was a fun book to do with the Grandkids. It's about having fun and spendingtime together. Emeril made this cook book easy and simple and yet the photos were fun as well. I would love to see more books on the market like this. It's about family time and not just eating... 5 Stars Emeril HAPPY HAPPY Customer

My niece brought this book over on her school break & we made 9 or 10 recipes & thought they were great. The cinnamon rolls, mac & cheese, apple muffins & the salad dressings to name a few. My niece ( almost 13) did most of the cooking herself with very little guidance from me. Great cookbook for kids & adults!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for any new chef - young or old, October 20, 2005

This review is from: Emeril's There's a Chef in My Soup! Recipes for the Kid in Everyone (Hardcover)
I checked this cookbook out of the library thinking my kids would enjoy cooking. Turns out we've all enjoyed eating!! Most kid cookbooks are terrible-how to make a sandwich, how to make mac and cheese from a box. Not this one. We've found our new favorite pizza sauce, our new favorite pizza crust, fantastic cinnamon rolls, and even a really good turkey meatloaf. So far, not a single disappointment!

I highly recommend this book for kids or beginning cooks. Or even bad cooks. Nothing makes cooking easier or more fun than a good recipe! These recipes are tasty, pretty easy, and very well explained. My only complaint is that the graphics are cartoony -I'd much rather see real photos. That said, I'm ordering this cookbook myself because there are just too many good recipes in here to copy them all down!

My best friend bought this book for my son as a gift. We loved it right from the start. He likes the pictures and recipes and I like that Emeril doesn't talk down to the kids. My son is 4 years old and going through a pick stage but he ate the BBQ Chicken Roll-ups without hesitation. I highly reccommend this book for anyone who wants to spend some quality time in the kitchen with their kids!
