Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse designed this large pot to be perfect for making rich spicy gumbo, but it is also ideal for everything from pot roasts to soups and stews. Equally at home on the stovetop or in the oven, this 8-quart pot features a heavy lid to seal in flavor, and large loop handles that make the pan easy to move even when it is full. Cast iron has been a popular cookware material for generations, thanks to its ability to conduct heat evenly and retain it well. The cast iron range from Emerilware offers all the benefits of cast iron without the need for time-consuming seasoning. Every pan is treated at the factory with a special vegetable oil blend before being heated in high-temperature industrial ovens. This process creates a durable nonstick surface that would take years to build up in an ordinary cast-iron pan. Emerilware cast iron cookware is oven-safe to 500 degrees F, and it should be cleaned by hand using a stiff brush and hot water. Each pan carries a lifetime warranty.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works as advertised, May 26, 2005

There is not much to say about a plain cast iron pot. This one cooks well and is nicely finished. The lid fits perfectly. Six quarts is just the right size for most recipes. With a minimum of care, this pot will last longer than I will. Be aware however, that cast iron is heavy. The weight makes the pot a bit awkward.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor finish, August 29, 2006

Caro Quilt (Tucson, AZ USA) - See all my reviews
The cast iron dutch oven is heavy, cooks well, but the casting was only rough finished. It was easy to scrape your hand on the surface, and I found it unacceptable. Fortunately my husband is a metal worker and had the tools to resurface the pot. Since sanding off the finish, and seasoning the pot again, we are satisfied with its performance.

This review is from: Emerilware Cast Iron 8 Quart Gumbo Pot with Lid (Kitchen)
This cast iron dutch oven is better than my $89 pot it replaced!!
Cast Iron is always a good investment and this one is pre-seasoned too. At a third of the cost of my other pot and much better made, I highly recommend it. Be prepared to get a good grip on it when lifting. It's quite heavy but has comfortable stout handles on the pot and lid. The lid is also nice and heavy for a great seal with a generous knob that is coated for comfort.
