Works as advertised,

There is not much to say about a plain cast iron pot. This one cooks well and is nicely finished. The lid fits perfectly. Six quarts is just the right size for most recipes. With a minimum of care, this pot will last longer than I will. Be aware however, that cast iron is heavy. The weight makes the pot a bit awkward.

Poor finish,

The cast iron dutch oven is heavy, cooks well, but the casting was only rough finished. It was easy to scrape your hand on the surface, and I found it unacceptable. Fortunately my husband is a metal worker and had the tools to resurface the pot. Since sanding off the finish, and seasoning the pot again, we are satisfied with its performance.

This cast iron dutch oven is better than my $89 pot it replaced!!
Cast Iron is always a good investment and this one is pre-seasoned too. At a third of the cost of my other pot and much better made, I highly recommend it. Be prepared to get a good grip on it when lifting. It's quite heavy but has comfortable stout handles on the pot and lid. The lid is also nice and heavy for a great seal with a generous knob that is coated for comfort.

I actually bought the 8 quart version...,

...elsewhere because it isn't available here. It arrived today and it is a magnificent piece of iron, everything I was looking for. The surface is rougher than Lodge cookware and the pre-seasoning is not as good as Lodge products. I'm going to smooth it out with my own seasoning and it will turn into a priceless shiny black monster. The Lodge 7 quart dutch oven also has the great handles that the Emeril pot has to enable removing these heavy vessels from an oven. All things being equal, I would have chosen the Lodge item but I had a gift card from another retailer. Still, I know I'm going to love this thing for whatever time on Earth is left to me. If 6 quarts is big enough for you, you will like the pot if you are a cast iron person, as I am. I don't miss my nonstick Calphalon at all.

This pot came in a timely manner and it was just as pictured.
I am from Louisiana and grew up watching my parents cook with cast iron pots and pans. I love mine and would recommend this item.

Bam, there goes the cover,
This review is from: Emerilware Cast Iron 6 Quart Dutch Oven with Lid (Kitchen)
This is most definitely a "Dutch Oven". Big, roomy and sturdy, that is except for the cover. Very poor design on the cover! A screw and not a real sturdy one at that hold secure the knob. The first time I used it the screw stripped and the cover starting to twirl around the screw. In addition, the paint is chipping from the knob. Besides that the pan is very useable. It will need to be treated after some use but that is normal.
