I bought the 8" fry pan as a tester piece and loved it, so we put the 10-piece set on our wedding registry.... I'm glad we have it, but there are two major things I don't like about it that I have to learn to live with:

1. The handle does stay cool, as long as you grip it at the very end. The closer you get to the pot, the hotter it gets. Also, the lid handle DOES NOT stay cool. I almost burned myself the first time I grabbed it. So, you always have to have a hot pad or towel handy.

2. The bigger pans are very heavy--and consequently are a little awkward to handle and move around (i.e. draining pasta or dumping something from one pan to another). Even the smaller pots can be a bit heavy and awkward. The handles are long and skinny which don't seem to be QUITE hefty enough for the heft of the pan itself. I find myself sometimes having to use both hands to lift a full pan or pot.

Overall, though, I love the pans. (I do wish I could use metal utensils on them, but I knew I couldn't before I bought them, so I can't complain.)...

If you are seriously thinking about these pans, test out ALL the pieces at a local store. Lift all the pieces. Try using just one hand. Put stuff in the pots (a boxed can opener or something--anything heavy that won't scratch) just to feel the heft of a full pot. Then make your decision.

3/22/09 UPDATE - Yes, this is an almost-eight-years-later update! I just want to say that the most-used pieces--the ones you use a few times a week every week--are finally needing to be replaced. I guess eight years isn't too bad for a set to last...

5.0 out of 5 stars You'll never go back!, August 6, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Emerilware Nonstick 10-Piece Cookware Set (Kitchen)
A year ago, my wife and I decided that it was time to replace our 8 year old T-Fal non-stick cookware set that we had gotten as a wedding gift. Initially, I was skeptical of buying anything with a celebrity's name on it, but the combination of quality and features kept the Emerilware on our consideration list. I was also somewhat concerned about buying non-stick again after our T-Fal was wearing out. The most reassuring fact was that underneath the glitz was a good set of All-Clad cookware. I liked the stainless steel handles, which were supposed to stay cool during cooking.

After a year of daily use, I am still absolutely delighted with our decision. This cookware is absolutely tops in every way. The construction is top notch. All of the handles are still perfectly tight, despite the heavy weight. The non-stick finish has held up very well (we hand wash only). The stainless handles look great and really do stay cool during cooking. It's really nice to be able to pop a pan directly into the oven without worry. The only additional Emerilware piece we added was the 3-quart steamer insert.

But the very best part is the actual cooking performance. These pans heat evenly and cook throughly. You don't need to use exceptionally high heat to cook.

Once you step up to this level of cookware, you'll never want to cook with anything else. I now do almost all of the cooking on the weekends (sorry--- I can't promise that for every husband). I even get great compliments from dinner guests on my cooking.

Even though this set is the best value in All-Clad cookware, there is no overlooking the fact that it *is* expensive. This set has the basics but adding more pieces is quite an expensive proposition. I've never understood why there is no Emerilware Wok/Stir-Fry pan available.

In short, it was money well spent. I'd definitely buy this cookware again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Emeril hits a home run!, September 8, 2002

This review is from: Emerilware Nonstick 10-Piece Cookware Set (Kitchen)
Emerilware by All-Clad has a sturdiness to it that shouts quality the first time you pick it up.
*The heavyweight thickness of the aluminum retains heat well and distributes heat flawlessly so there are no hot or cool spots.
*The quality of the multilayer nonstick material is comparable to Calphalon Commercial Nonstick, which is very, very similar although perhaps a little lighter in weight.
*The price for this set on Amazon can't be beat! It's priced the same here as the substandard lines of cookware available at [local store]!
*Lifetime warranty by a quality company means you can buy with confidence.
*Stay-cool, sturdy metal handles can go into the oven and have a handy and comfortable notch for your thumb.
*The combination of matte grey anodized aluminum bottoms and stainless lids and handles make a stunning design statement for your kitchen.

Folks concerned about the heavyness of the Emeril pans should check them out in the store, and compare to the Calphalon Commercial products, which also carry a lifetime warranty and have excellent cooking characteristics.

This particular set would be an excellent starter for a couple. Families and entertainers will need to add at a minimum a 12-inch frypan and an 8-quart stockpot, also available here at Amazon.

Enjoy!

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Emerilware Nonstick 10-Piece Cookware Set (Kitchen)
I just purchased the 10 PC Emerilware set after using my boyfriend's for the last year. I had shunned the Emerilware mostly because I wasn't sure I wanted what another reviewer referred to as the "cheesy" celebrity name thing. But after what some would call an obsessive amount of comparison shopping (eBay, department stores and online sites), I had to concede that the Emerilware is one of the finest quality sets of cookware around. Once I had decided on a nonstick interior, the only other set that has the same qualities as the Emerilware (nonstick interior, hard anodized exterior and high polished, domed stainless steel lids)was the new Calphalon Commericial nonstick ... which costs more than twice as much as the Emerilware. I personally prefer the All Clad name and reputation so as soon as I saw the sale price of this cookware, I had to bite the bullet and buy some for myself.
I can't imagine anyone not loving this cookware. It has a nice, solid weight to it, but not too heavy that it is cumbersome, and it cleans up easier than anything I have ever used before. The 10 PC set has everything almost anyone could need for cooking, which saves on having to add open stock pieces (which adds considerably to the cost of building a set of cookware). I also have the Emerilware utensils and they are great as well. The canister that is included in one set of untensils is a great quality (as well as classy looking) piece and worth the price even without the added utensils in it.

If you are looking for an incredible set of cookware at an incredible price, benefit from my months of researching and comparing prices and know that this is a great set and an unbelievable value.

5.0 out of 5 stars I "LOVE" my new Cookware, September 26, 2001
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Emerilware Nonstick 10-Piece Cookware Set (Kitchen)
This cookware is awesome. I love the way it looks AND the way it cooks. The heating is even and the pans retain the heat for a long time. The cookware is heavy like the previous review said, but in my opinion if you pay for professional quality cookware it had better be heavy. If you want light go [...]...you get what you pay for. The handles are sturdy and I especially like the way the lip of the pans are fluted for easy pouring-No mess! I'll pass along a tip for storage. If you want to nest the pans for storage keep an old yogurt container lid in the bottom of each pan so you don't scratch the non-stick surface-it works great! I love to cook and this is just one fabulous tool in my arsenal. BAM, ya gotta have it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Emerilware Aluminum Non-Stick Cookware Problems…, November 11, 2005
This review is from: Emerilware Nonstick 10-Piece Cookware Set (Kitchen)
Hi;

I am writing this because I know that most customers simply do not have the time to properly explain a problem with new items and will simply go elsewhere for their products in the future.

I am hoping that this will help All-Clad in some small way to improve their products as I believe the Emerilware line is a wonderful value and I really want to help it succeed.

I read the reviews on the Amazon site about these pans (all were very positive) except more then one person also talked about the cosmetic damages on their Emerilware pans at time of receipt. One person called All-Clad about this problem; All-Clad acknowledged that they were having a problem with pans getting damaged in shipment and that they were working on a solution for it. The replacement set he got from All-Clad were packed exactly the same but they were not damaged.

After reading and researching everything that I could about high quality aluminum non-stick cookware, I decided that Emerilware was the best cookware for the money. I therefore bought the 10 piece set at CutleryAndMore (a really great company with superb service) plus their prices on several many are cheaper then Amazon.

When I finally got around to opening my Emerilware 10 piece cookware set I noticed several small damage areas on some of the pans…
• One pan has a large chunk of the outer coating chipped off; looks like it may have happened at the factory as nothing else was touching it in the box.
• Another pan has a small scratch on the outside possibly from another pan rubbing against it in transit (possibly by the way it was packed one item nested inside of another.
• Another pan has some of the Teflon on the inside gouged out (also possibly by the way it was packed one item nested inside of another.
• The included free Steamer Insert does not fit very well in the pan; either the pan is slightly out of round or the steamer is out of round (I can’t tell which). Either way it is very wobbly when setting in the bottom pan. One way it is very loose, but if I rotate it slightly it is then very tight and will not seat in the pan leading me to believe that one or the other is out of round. Also the steamer insert does not go very deep into the bottom pan; it sits fairly high also adding to the top heavy and wobbly problem. The steamer insert needs to be re-engineered for a better fit.

CutleryAndMore sent me a replacement set which was as perfect as could be so I became one happy camper and am now enjoying the 10 piece cookware set (much to my delight).

Now that I have had a chance to use them, I really like the Emerilware cookware. It seems to be the very best product for the money out there… a superb value (if you can get a ding free set). I now plan on buying more items very soon for a more complete set.

But, Read On…

I then decided to add to the set by purchasing four additional pans plus one teapot; to my dismay, four of the five new items also arrived with various scratches. The thing about these 5 pans is they all were acquired from Open Stock and came in individual boxes. This leaves me to think that the factory may have to carry its share of the blame for the scratching, chipping and dinging problems as there were no two pans rubbing together like there was with the 10 piece set.

It is now obvious (to me) that the Emerilware line has a serious packaging (and possibly factory handling) problem that needs urgent attention.

As it stands now this is totally unacceptable! A customer should not have to go through this time and again just to get a clean set of cookware.

I may be a little more particular then some other customers who would let this sort of thing slide by; many people simply do not have the time to resolve these issues. I myself may have let a small scratch on ONE pan slide by. That does not however, mean that manufacturers should get away with less then secure packaging and proper handling of their products. With so many scratches on so many pans, well, that is simply awful.

Due to the large number of scratches on so many pans I will at this point accept nothing but pristine condition in new items (which all new products should aspire to).

Every customer should be able to receive products in pristine condition… after all, we are paying for new products and expect that anything new should arrive shiny and scratch free. Would you want to get a new car complete with built-in dings and scratches? I think not.

I have total confidence that All-Clad will eventually resolve this problem so that future customers do not have to go through what I have put up with.

Also, I watch, "Emeril Live" frequently and he doesn't appear to be using this cookware set as much as his stainless.

I've had my Emerilware for 2 months now, and I'm so tickled with it! It's like having art in the kitchen. My husband boiled water for pasta the first night and was floored at how quickly it heated up!
There was a small dent in one of the pans, where it crushed into the non-stick surface (this is how it arrived in the package), so I sent it back to Emerilware, and they replaced the pan, no questions asked. So as far as the guarantee, you can't go wrong with it.
If you're an All-Clad fan, this is the cookware for you!!!!
I highly recommend this to anyone looking for some excellent cookware! It's the best investment I've made for my kitchen, other than my KitchenAid mixer! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Adding to the pot..over time usage, October 22, 2003

This review is from: Emerilware Nonstick 10-Piece Cookware Set (Kitchen)
A couple of years ago I bought this set when it was 13 pieces.
All of the above and it also included the 2 quart sauce pan
with lid and free strainer insert. For About $500.00.

I must say I was worried about the cost and life of the set.

Ive had several other sets over the years.
I was simply unhappy with them all.
I just could not find a set that held up well.

Most of the sets I used wore out to quickly. The surface
scratched or warped to easy. Even with proper care.

So far so good with this set. The quality is allsome.
Ive had no problems at all with anything concerning this set.

In addition to what other people have already stated before me.
Looks as good as I the first day I used it. I agree ..Money well spent.
This is a must have. (***** stars.

I am a big fan of All-Clad cookware, and I was shocked--shocked--at the quality and value of this All-Clad produced set! One tends to look for corner cutting in the way this set is made to explain the low price, but everything is first-rate, both in materials and workmanship. The handles are decidedly more comfortable than the standard All-Clad design (chalk one up for Emeril's design input, I guess), and the non-stick finish looks like it will last a long, long time.
