5.0 out of 5 stars I love it!, November 17, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Emerilware Nonstick 12-Inch Fry Pan (Kitchen)
I love my Emerilware frying pan. It's solid, non-stick and big, so that it makes making eggs a breeze! Cleans up easily and the handle stays cool while cooking, and it has a loop so you can hang it on a rack. The only thing I'm not crazy about is that it says Emeril in script on the bottom of the outside of the pan, so when you hang it, it shows. I also wish I could get a lid for it. But, otherwise it's exceptional and for the price it's really worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars An essential in my kitchen, July 29, 2003

I often cook by starting an item on the stove and finishing in the oven. This pan combines non-stick with a handle that will go in the oven and is a great size for feeding 4 to 6. The non-stick surface has been very robust and performs flawlessly. The clad pan cooks evenly and browns like few other non-stick pans. I have used several commercial aluminum non-stick pans in the past for stove-to-oven, but none of them perform as well as this one. This is now my go-to pan in the 12 inch size and I'd get a 10-inch if I didn't already have an All Clad. My one criticism is that the handle is not quite as comfortable or secure in hand as the All Clad handle, but its a minor flaw, and easily overlooked in a pan about half the price! Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars A bit unwieldy, but a solidly made skillet.., June 25, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Emerilware Nonstick 12-Inch Fry Pan (Kitchen)
This is a large, heavy, solid nonstick pan, and there are pros and cons that go along with those characteristics.

Although it's sometimes nice to have such a big pan (the pan is 12 inches across the top, but only about 8 or 9 inches across the bottom), I wish it were an inch narrower on the top since I have a relatively small stove. The pan is so wide that the only other pan that will fit on the back burner behind the skillet is a 1 or 2 quart saucepan, but not anything larger. I didn't think about this before I bought the pan, so I recommend that others get out a ruler before making a final decision.

Also, the pan is quite heavy, which is nice for retaining heat, but for someone who's relatively small (like me) it can be difficult to lift. The heavy weight and single long (rather uncomfortable) handle to one side means that it takes a lot of strength to hold the pan up by one hand while using a spatula to move food from the skillet to a plate.

If you very carefully follow the cooking and cleaning instructions the nonstick surface will last a long time. I haven't used metal utensils or put it in the dishwasher, but I ocassionally do accidentally let the pan get too hot. (If you like to dry-fry foods on high-heat this is not the pan for you!) As a result of my occasional negligence, after about a year the surface started to flake off and the middle of the pan was no longer non-stick. I shipped the pan back to All-Clad for about $10 and they repaired it or gave me a new one, I'm not sure which. In the year since I've been more careful and the surface is still in great shape.

I do like that the pan can go in the oven, but unfortunately what I most often want to do is put in under the broiler for a minute, which isn't allowed.

I agree with the other reviewer that says the script "Emeril" on the handle is tacky, and that a lid would be *very* useful.

Overall, if you have a large enough stove and big enough muscles then it's a good pan that heats well and cleans up easily as long as you accept the limitations of nonstick and follow the instructions and only ever use medium heat.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Pan in the Kitchen, November 9, 2005

I recently purchased a new 12" Emeril Hard Anodized Fry Pan at Bed Bath and Beyond (sorry Amazon but price is King). I believe the pan offered here at Amazon is the older model that is Made in Korea. The newer model is Made in China, but appears to be equal quality and addresses the main problem pointed out here in other reviews; that being the inadequate skinny handle.

The new pan has a heftier handle and is better balanced. It cooks like a dream as does the old model. Best of all, the new 12 Fry Pan retails for $49.95. Combine the design improvements with a lower price and one of those 20% Bed Bath and Beyond coupons, and you get a No-Brainer.

Ordered this pan ~ a year ago. It's a solid piece of kit! The non-stick surface performs extremely well. I love ALL of the properties of the pan. Unfortunately, the pan comes with a handle attached that is not on par with the rest of the pan.

The handle is worse than useless. It gives the impression that you can actually DO something with the pan by holding the handle. That's not exactly the case.

The problem: The handle is too narrow to get much leverage.

The pan itself is solid and weighs several pounds (as Martha would say, That's a good thing!). When it's filled with food, it's even heavier (pretty reasonable expectation). Trying to maneuver a pan full of just cooked goodness becomes an exercise in futility. I can't tell you how many times I've nearly dropped or actually did drop the pan while trying to drain off grease.

If the handle were ~ another half-inch wider, it would be perfection. As it is, it still gets plenty of use in my kitchen. Just need to keep my expectations in line... plus grab a hot mitt to hold the other end of the pan. :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, great pan, February 15, 2005

I just love this pan! I make about everything in this thing - from eggs to pancakes to casseroles, you name it, and it just keeps coming back for more. The cleanup is so easy and since NOTHING sticks to it, you don't have those little crusty black things that refuse to come out, sticking to the bottom of the pan. (I think those are scratches in the teflon.) Anyway, after getting rid of QVC's Cook's Essentials because of the Teflon flaking off after 2 months, I decided to get something that was worth my money. These pans are just fantastic - don't be afraid to jump in the water. You'll be glad you did!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Value, May 21, 2009
This review is from: Emerilware Nonstick 12-Inch Fry Pan (Kitchen)
This is a great value for the money. Made by All-Clad, this 12" fry pan will do the job (and well) for less money than other brands. I bought this to go with my Pro-Clad set so I would have a non-stick pan as well. I paid $35 for it at bed bath & beyond, it was on clearance + 20% for the display model.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best non-stick anodized aluminum pan, May 8, 2006
This review is from: Emerilware Nonstick 12-Inch Fry Pan (Kitchen)
We've had this pan for about 3 years, and except for a couple of scratches, it's as good as new. We also have some Calphalon anodized aluminum pans, and they're not nearly as handy to clean as this pan. We usually cook with a little bit of olive oil, and clean the pan with a nylon pad or a plastic scraper.
