My Bread's BAM-a-licious!,
By Shake n Baker "Shake n Baker" (VA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Emerilware by T-Fal Emerilware 3-PoundBread & Baguette Maker (Kitchen)
I've tried almost every major brand of bread machine they make (including the Zojirushi), and returned ALL of them - until I got this one! The T-Fal OW5005002 Emerilware Bread-and-Baguette Maker does everything it says, and does it well! I've made cakes (they resemble pound cakes), the baguettes (adorable AND tasty), and several loaves of delicious bread in it! It has two paddles, which does make a difference when kneading dough. The crust selector works better than any other bread machine I've had, and I was really impressed that the breads came out with one texture, the cake another, and the french baguette recipe a third! It makes decently textured pizza dough too (though the delay timer doesn't work on the dough cycle, so I have to make it at the right time to have it ready for dinner).
The unit itself is pretty large, but it functions quietly, and stays in one place on the counter. The pan is 8 5/8" by 4 3/4" by 6" tall, so it makes a loaf that is actual loaf pan-sized! It has way more wattage than the Zo (1650 vs. 700), and so far is proving to be a stunning value! Highly, highly recommended! I've since found out that the 'cake' cycle is the quick bread cycle. Bakes a wonderful one from a box (that's the only kind I've tried so far). Also, I've tried fat-free loaves and it worked great with them too. I'm a little disappointed that there's no 'bake only' cycle. That would help me a lot with sourdough loaves.

I have purchased this bread machine after my old Breadman-Pro broke down. I bake bread every week, and sometimes I give loafs away, so I needed a bigger machine. I chose this one for its capacity of 3-lb bread and the dual kneading-paddle features. I am very pleased so far. The machine does what it promises. I have not tried all the recipes, but the basic white bread and the 3 lb dough were coming right every time. The 2 paddles are powerful and really knead the dough. I am very happy with my purchase, and I am sorry to hear some negative reviews (which kind of made me reluctant to this purchase). I am glad now that I did it. It also had a $20 mail-in rebate (which goes through the whole month of November 2008).

This is the best bread machine I've ever had.,

This review is from: Emerilware by T-Fal Emerilware 3-PoundBread & Baguette Maker (Kitchen)
This is my third bread machine and the best one I've ever had. I do admit that I don't use a bread machine to cook my bread...I prefer cooking my bread in the oven... I use my bread machines to knead the dough.
My first bread machine was an old Betty Crocker II that I bought back in the late 80s or early 90s. It supposedly made a two pound loaf...I used to knead much more dough than that and it would handle it just fine. After 15 years of loyal service it finally died. My mother gave me a bread machine for Christmas...it was a Magic Chef and I guess it was ok but nothing to write home about...it worked but only just and only with white flour. I have since purchased a mill and started milling my own fresh flour and the Magic Chef just couldn't handle it. I then started using my Kitchen Aid mixer with the dough hook to make my bread and talk about a nightmare but I'm not even going to go there. I then started looking at mixers that would be able to handle the workload that I was putting on them and the one that I really needed started at around $500.00. I really didn't want to spend that much money. In my search for another bread machine that I thought might be able to handle the task I came across the T-Fal OW500 and decided to give it a shot. Besides the fact that it was almost a fourth the cost of the mixer, it was designed to knead 3 pounds of dough, so I figured I'd give it a shot. I've had it for about a month now and I couldn't be happier...it works like a dream. It does an awesome job of kneading the dough and I have to say it gives me some of the best-textured bread I've ever had the pleasure of eating.

Disappointed in T-Fal Service,
By
This review is from: Emerilware by T-Fal Emerilware 3-PoundBread & Baguette Maker (Kitchen)
I had this machine for barely three weeks when the window gasket fell out. T-Fal service had me ship the entire unit back AT MY EXPENSE and promised to expedite return shipment of a new one. That was almost a month ago and I have nothing yet!!! The machine seemed to work well before I had to return it- I made about 10 loaves with good results. I never got a chance to try the baguette tray. Due to the bad customer service including their inability to tell me when I might see a new unit ( it took two weeks for them to process a REQUEST for shipment of a new unit- who knows if it has even been shipped) I would not purchase another T-Fal product. They even refused to refund my purchase price.

Before this machine all I made was box cakes and was not great at it. Bought this machine five weeks ago, using atleast 3-4x a week, and not once have I made bad loaf. Have tried recipies from t-fal, emeril, and [...]. They all have been a hit. My family loves having eggs with fresh bread, my son especially loves the chocolate chip brioche. I just wish teh lcd had somekind of back light, hard to rd at times. Don't be fooled the machine looks cheaply made but works great. Oh yeah have made a tonof stuff that is made in the oven liek pizza dough, cinamon buns, challah bread, and portugueese sweet bread. Still working onwhole wht. Oh yeah have to admit have only used King Arthur flour, yeast, leavening etc. Buy it you wont regret it. Lumaky3

I received my machine on 11/19 and waited to make different loaves before giving a review. I printed out the instructions in advance before receving the machine to be familiar with the unit before I got it. I did purchase a thermometer to measure the temperture of the water for 99 cents since that seemed very important. My first loaf was from a pakcage, and it turned out excellent, I made the second few loaves from recipes provided and again turned out excellent I finally tried the baguette recipe provided and it amazed me how terrific it turned out. I believe reading the instructions beforehand helped me a lot.
I would highly recommend this machine, Ive had no problems with the paddles sticking to the bread. But I do need to run a plastic knife around the pan to loosen the loaf to have it come out. After studying different machines I know I made the right choice with this one.

Best Breadmaker for the $!,

This bread-machine is recommended by someone who loves to bake and cook and uses the bread machine 1 or 2 times per week.
I previously owned a Toastmaster breadmaker and it lasted 12 years until it hopped off the counter while we were at Christmas Eve Service and died. In comparison this T-fal Breadmaker is quiet, makes a perfect horizontal loaf, has two paddles in the pan for better mixing, and it hasn't hopped off the counter yet! This has a quick loaf option which only takes an hour and a half to bake a 2.5 lb loaf, and it comes loaded with options where you can adjust the crust color and make many kinds of bread, baguettes, pizza dough, and also cakes and jams though I haven't tried that feature yet. This T-fal Breadmaker has 2, 2.5, and 3 lb loaves instead of the 1, 1.5, and 2 lb loaves with most machines, so if you are baking bread for a family this machine is the one you want. It also comes with a measuring cup, measuring spoon, baguette baking rack, hook to pull the paddles out of the loaf, slicing blade for the baguettes, and a few recipes and manual for the machine. The only bad thing I can say is the pizza dough recipe was a little dry so I add an extra 1/2 cup of water and 1 Tbsp of oil and it turns out just fine. Overall, this Breadmaker is worth it's pricetag and makes the best homemade bread I have ever tasted!

METRO KITCHEN (seller) DO NOT BUY FROM THIS SELLER!!!,

Bought this machine from METRO KITCHEN & received THE MOST HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER RECEIVED ON AMAZON. The machine has mechanical defects. Metro Kitchen will not exchange it for another machine. The machine cooks the outside of the bread hard as a rock. The overcooked edge of the bread is 1 inch thick. The top of the bread is burned & has peaks - not smooth. I am an experienced baker-have used machines for over 13 years without problems. When I contacted Metro Kitchen I explained the problem. They told me the machine was now used & a warranty problem. They said the shipping invoice - which was NOT in the box - states do use machine if defective. How could I know the machine was mechanically defective until I used it? They would not budge. I asked for a shipping label to return the machine for an EXCHANGE NOT A REFUND. THEY SAID NO. Furthermore, they said since I got free shipping when purchased, I had to pay shipping to return it! And if I returned it, they would inspect it & it would take 2-3 weeks to ship it back because they could not exchange a used item. I would have to pay that shipping too.
I told them they run a scam by selling defective merchandise & then making money on the shipping costs by having customers pay to ship it back after the machine is repaired. Again I asked for a shipping label & the response was no because according to them, the item was used & I should not have used it if it was defective. This was the response I received over & over & over when I asked just for a shipping label. Now, I have to find a dealer in my city who can repair the machine under the one year 'limited' warranty. I have all the emails to confirm this scam by this company. Amazon needs to take this seller off their site. They are scammers as far as I am concerned.

If I had to rate the machine on dependability, I'd give it 5 stars. It consistently mixes dough well, even when making a 3-pound whole wheat loaf.
Where this breadmaker falls short is in its features. There is no "bake only" or "pause" cycles, which often has me turning on the oven if I'm doing a special loaf of some sort. The whole reason I like kitchen gadgets is to keep from turning on the oven so this machine has proven self-defeating since I already own a Kitchen Aid stand mixer that can make excellent bread dough. Also, I'd like to use the little baguette molds to make regular sandwich rolls from bread dough but can't because the machine will only allow for baguette dough + bake cycle (again, no "bake only" cycle). Baguettes don't interest me, but that's the only option there is on the machine, unless you use "dough only" then bake in a regular oven (which I did, but again, why buy a breadmaker if you have to use your oven?). Cakes don't interest me either, yet there is a "cake" cycle but no "quick bread" cycle. I was surprised by this because, hellooo! this IS a BREADmaker not a cakemaker. The machine bakes consistently but I don't use the pre-set auto cycle ever (where it is set on a timer to turn on and bake when I'm away). If I'm not around to take the bread out a few minutes before the end of the baking cycle, the loaf is dry, no matter what crust setting I choose. So far, I haven't figured out a way to turn off the "keep warm" cycle, which would help a lot. The dryness, by the way, may just be due to climatic conditions where I live. For this much money there should be more features on this machine-- at the least, "bake only" and "quick bread" cycles. Last but not least, the instructions for making pasta are incomplete. I guess who ever wrote the companion book and recipe booklet assumes we are all expert cooks. If I were an expert cook I wouldn't be buying a breadmachine, for crying out loud. I have never made pasta in my life and would like to have some general suggestions for the dough-- do I roll it out? How thick? How long should I cook it and how much water should I use? I did make a cranberry and apple compote (my own recipe) for Thanksgiving and I have to say, it came out fantastic. It is probably the best thing I've made in this machine yet. My advice would be to either get a less expensive bread maker with similar features (some that cost less than half as much have "bake only" and "quick bread" cycles), or if you want a 2-paddle breadmaker, spend just a little more and get some decent features-- features that, in my opinion, should be on this machine at this price.

great bread maker; highly recommended,

After agonizing over which bread machine to buy, I chose this one. The first two loaves I made turned out like bricks, but then I realized that my flour might be old, and when I used fresh flour, everything turned out beautifully. I've had it now for about 8 months, and I love it. I make all of my own bread and I don't have to worry about all the unpronounceable ingredients in store-bought bread. The only trade-off is that the bread goes stale pretty quickly because it lacks preservatives.
This machine is easy to use, has two paddles, and a variety of options. It also can make a three-pound loaf, and it's my understanding that there aren't many bread machines on the market (if any) with this capacity. I've used a lot of the recipes that were included with the product, and I've liked nearly all of them. I haven't tried the baguette function yet, but it's on my to-do list. A few negatives, however: 1) it's a bit large; 2) it only comes in white; 3) there is no way to know when the kneading cycle is about to be over (the moment when you add additional ingredients if necessary)--it just beeps. I have to hang around near the kitchen to listen for it, or I'll miss it. 4) When the paddles are removed, it leaves two gaping holes in the bread. But I believe this is an issue with all bread machines and is unavoidable. Last weekend, my kitchen was filled with the smell of homemade bread baking and a pot roast in the slow cooker. What better way to usher in the cooler weather? June, 2010 I've now had this machine for over a year, and it's still going strong. I love it. It's a real workhorse...sometimes I run it twice a day. I've branched out with different recipes from a variety of bread machine cookbooks, and they've all turned out wonderfully. |
