Costly - But Worth It,
This review is from: Emerilware VS4001002 9-1/2-Liter Steamer by T-Fal (Kitchen)
Having purchased (and thoroughly used!) several steamers previously I knew what I wanted and what I did not want. The Emerilware offered metal steaming bowls and a quick, constant steam feature. I found the metal preferable to the common plastic steamer trays since metal is easier to keep clean & doesn't crack and break like the plastic trays do. The unit has a larger "footprint" than other units but I had no problem adapting to it. I found the operating instructions easy & food quality is consistently good. I would recommend this unit to anyone who intends on using a steamer on a regular basis. It holds up!

I absolutely LOVE this steamer!
You fill the bottom section with water. Place on the drip tray, place on the plastic container and either place your food directly into the plastic container or fill one or both of the metal baskets. Cover, set the timer, and your done! We love the steamed chicken it makes. My husband who would never touch white meat loves it made in the steamer. My picky, Aspergers, almost 13 year old boy, is devouring the chicken, and I am sticking to my diet! Cut the chicken into strips, place in steamer, set timer for 15 - 30 minutes (depending on the amount of chicken) and you are done! And then the best of all....it ALL goes in the dishwasher! The broccoli was the best steamed broccoli I ever tasted. The cauliflower (the only vegetable my son will touch) was incredible. The zucchini's and yellow squash tasted like a treat! I cannot say enough good about my new toy! My son just wants to know if he can call it Mom's cooking or did Emeril make it?

Best Steamer,

This is the best steamer I have for 1 reason, it is easy to clean. Every other steamer that I have owned has gotten scum growing in some water spout. This steamer comes completely apart and most everything fits right in the dishwasher. It is very powerful and easily cooks all the veggies I put in there.

Steamy Meals in a Ziff,

I seldom cook in any manner except for steaming and have gone through many steamers over the years. This is by far the best and easiest steamer to use yet.
I really enjoy the ability to steam up to three different items at a time and the burst feature that allows for success when the lid needs to be lifted to add items. I have never had the rice fail to cook properly when doing this and anyone who is familiar with rice cooking knows that lifting the lid during cooking can ruin the rice. Not with this unit though and that makes this steamer a very big plus in my book and wish I had used this much sooner. I have given away the other two steamers that I was using and only use this one now and now longer have to use multiple steamers cluttering my countertops any more.

This item works fine, have had no problems and it has cooked everything well so far. Have had no leak issues as some have mentioned, I think you just need to make sure that the top is on correctly.
Very satisfied with the steamer.

I received this steamer for Christmas last year. My son was 6 months old at the time. I started steaming food for him that I could make into baby food. Now I use the steamer 2-3 times per week for the whole family. It is so easy to throw vegetables in one side and potatoes in the other and start the timer. I don't have to wait for water to boil or over cook things while I chase my toddler. I only saw one other steamer that cooks two items side by side and it did not compare to this steamer.
I have never used another steamer and this one is pricey, but the corn on the cob, broccoli, and lobster made in this steamer is the best I have ever tasted!

I have used a few other steamers over the last years. I found some to be too small to cook for four people. Others made the food taste like metal. Still others over or undercooked the food. This beast (because its pretty good sized) does everything very well. Just add the water, set the time and best of all you can cook the mail course, and two vegetables at the same time. Its a little slower than some of the others, but you are cooking a lot more food. The receipe books is also handy for the starting individual.
Broccoli, cauliflower asparigus squash is just great. And you know the corn at this time of year is not like the corn in the fall. Well this steamer makes it taste like you just picked it fresh of the fields. I don't know what that guy who stated it was difficult to refill means about it being hard. There is a small door on the right that you pull out and fill even when its running. And there is a see thru gauge which tells you how much water is in the machine. Brilliant. Also if Emeril puts his name on it, it's got to be good. Would buy another one tomorrow and will recommend it to all my friends.

I picked this out as a credit card reward so I don't think I would have paid $100 to try this out but I am very happy that I have it. Although it is a large appliance the meal that I just cooked with it was great. Fish and veggies in the same steamer- worked out great! Plus the warming feature is great too- I am going to love getting my meals started and then simply coming back when I am ready for it even if it is not exactly at the moment it is finished.

It works just like it says, it steams your food. It is a larger unit, so you need to have space to set it. Food takes slightly longer than the directions but only by a few minutes more, and the warming feature is nice, especially if your waiting on other dishes.
The only problems I've had is that the lid is sometime difficult to get on correctly, letting out a lot of steam in the process.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Emerilware VS4001002 9-1/2-Liter Steamer by T-Fal (Kitchen)
Bought this steamer for my wife for mothers day 2 years ago. At the time, it was on-sale at Amazon for ~$70, so a great deal! Overall, love the steamer (at that price), BUT... The water reservoir (or basin, or whatever you want to call it) is TOO SHALLOW! It holds enough water to steam your food, but to fill it up (and more importantly, empty the HOT) water can be a bit of a pain.
I would recommend this steamer to folks who steam a LOT. With that said, I haven't seen it hit the low price point since shortly after I purchased -- don't know if I would go to the $100+ mark for this. |
