If you've ever tried one of those small thermo-electric plate refrigerators (as I have), you may have been disappointed by its cooling capability. Sadly, the technology that allows them to be so small also limits how cold they get. They can keep things cool, but they don't make things truly cold. So, if you like your milk to remain unspoiled and your drinks to be icy cold, compressor refrigerators are still the way to go. This Emerson CR180 compact refrigerator runs on a compressor system.

That said, let's start with what everyone wants to know first: How cold does this unit get?

I've had this refrigerator running for a week and these are the temperatures I've measured:

Setting number 6......4

Door..............34.....43 degrees Fahrenheit
Middle Shelf....33.....42
Freezer..........18.....26

Setting number 6 is the coldest. The manufacturer's guide states that setting number 3 should suffice for most people, but I like things on the colder side, so I keep it between 4 and 5.

Overall, this refrigerator runs quietly. There is, however, a soft "plink" every couple of minutes as the cooling system kicks in. It's barely noticeable with all the noise where I work, but it is something to keep in mind if you plan to use the refrigerator in a quiet environment.

The exterior dimensions are 18 inches high x 18.5 inches wide x 20 inches deep. It fits nicely under my desk, and despite the manufacturer's warning not to put heavy objects on top, I do occasionally use it as a footrest.

The freezer holds one frozen dinner (maybe two if you remove the cardboard boxes and just slide the plastic-wrapped meal trays in).

This things is exactly what I needed. I'm able to fit everything I need for lunch and still have room to pack it to its capacity. It keeps everything really cold on setting 4.5 of 6. I'm thinking it would freeze everything if I set it to 6. It fits perfectly under my cubical desk. It looks great. I don't hear it at all. I highly recommend this fridge to all.

I wish I could post a picture for you. Instead, to give you and idea of what this thing can pack, this is what I have in the fridge at all times:
1/2 gallon milk
1/2 gallon apple juice
1 quart coffee creamer
2 8oz of cream cheese
2 pounds of cold cuts
1 pack of sliced cheese
30oz bottle of mayo
40oz bottle of peanut butter
14oz of mustard
16oz bottle of salad dressing
20oz bottle of hot sauce

With this, I can still fit in two 6"X6"X4" Tupperware containers and probably three or four 12oz cans of drinks.

There's already a solidly-detailed review on the product, so I won't make this long -- just want to add a short note. When I decided to buy a compact refrigerator for my bedroom, I expected it would take me 20 minutes to read a few reviews and get one on order. I was wrong. The handling damage reported by customers bespeaks a horrible track record, so I continued to search and discovered a department store web site that would help me track down this model to a local store. I picked it up last week. The unit on the shelf looked badly mauled. The unit was still in its container and I wouldn't buy that unit without having it unpacked at the store. They happened to have another unit in stock and brought it forward. With the packing in good condition I brought it home and plugged it in.
It's delightful -- quiet, cold, and the estimated annual cost, depending on your utility rates, is just $36 per year.

I bought this from Target. I have reviewed many compact refrigerator and have not been impressed with them. This one is new to the market so I went ahead and bought one. WOW...I love it! Fits in my office great...quite, just a little "tink" when the compressor kicks on...but nothing noisy. It keeps everthing I have inside COLD! I haven't used the "freezer" so I don't know how that does. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a compact fridge!

Just bought this and plugged it in yesterday. I am very happy with it. The thermostat is not set for the lowest temperature setting but the fridge is keeping things VERY cold--as good as a full-sized refrigerator--and there's more room in it than I expected. It comes with a freezer section which will hold small items or 2 stacked ice cube trays with a small space left on the side. Also, it's not too heavy for one person to lift and move around. I give this a strong buy recommendation.

This is being used in a restaurant to keep things chilled for the customers, and it performs just fine. The packaging got it to us in good shape. We use it to keep soy milk, ketchup, mustard, hot sauce, and a few odd bottles of white wine chilled, and it stands up to being opened and closed multiple times a day without issue.

I mainly got this for my room so my sister would stop stealing my drinks from the main fridge. It's perfect if you're in a small room and stores little things like sodas if you want to keep them from people or just have it somewhere else for convenience.
