This is a fantastic alarm. I love the quiet wake feature which starts at a whisper and increases the decibels until you stop it. My family perhaps loves this feature even more than I do because I tend to snooze for an hour or so if I can get away with it. I like the auto-set feature and wish my other clocks could have that too.

It has two alarms so I can set it different on the weekends. The radio is not very good, but I didn't plan to use it much anyway.

You DO have to be careful if you plan to snooze not to accidentally hit the off button. It's a little too easy to do that!

After reading all the reviews about the display being too bright, I decided to buy one anyway. The model number of the one I received (2/2012) is CKS9031 and there is a suffix of MA. I suspect that Emerson has corrected the "too bright" display. On high it is fine and on low it is barely readable during the day. The clock set to the correct time out of the box.

Had this in a guest room when staying at a relatives, it lit up the room and worked as a nightlight for my 2 y/o. I liked the large display and was amazed when the darn thing set itself when I moved it to a different outlet.

Astheticly, I liked the size of the unit, it preffer something w/ some weight to it. This radio seems solid and since I bought it for a kids room, it better be. The lines are atractive, sort of rounded edges and a nice sublte modern look.

The display comes in red, green & blue. I have blue for the kiddo's room to light it up (even on dim). I will get red for mine, as I want a dark room.

I do agree that the tuning is sub-par. The dial is just too "fuzzy" for a digital tuner. I knew this going in and was OK w/ it. I get the classical station I want and it basicaly stays on 24/7 in the kids room at a low level.

Quick setup with the clock time and no issues setting the alarm. Wife likes the soft to loud alarm wake-up feature of the clock. What we both dislike is the amount of blinding light the clock emits on normal or dimmer setting. We have to either cover up the clock before turning in for the night or face it to a wall to cut down on the light. I gave it 2 stars because of the dimmer being so bright.

After days of researching, I finally found the best alarm clock for me and my wife! We are so happy with what we found.

I can't say anything bad about this alarm clock, it got everything we are looking for:
- Weekday\weekend\everyday alarms function for each of its 2 alarm. We set up alarm 1 @ 6a.m. on weekdays (for me), alarm 2 @ 7:30a.m. (for her) on weekdays, therefore no alarm on the weekend. We don't have to wake up by the alarm clock Sat. @ 6a.m never, ever, never ever again.
- Individual setting for each alarm wake up to a gradual buzz or radio.
- The clock has a high/low light setting. If you think the display is too bright, set it to low.
- The display is very clear, showing time and day of week.
- The radio is very clear compare to our existing radio alarm clock.
- The most amazing thing is that the clock will reset itself to the correct time in the event of a power outage. The alarm will preserve the alarms' settings. So in case of a power outage in the middle of the night, when the power comes back on, your alarm clock will continue to function as before. What a great idea! You don't have to manually reset it again, and worse, miss you morning alarm.

These are other alarm clocks that I looked at:

Made by Emerson also. I was going to get this one, but I tried it at a store and it can tip forward as you reach in from hitting the snooze button. Also, some of the button are small. Emerson design is much more stable\sturdy.

This alarm clock has to be the best one i have ever owned. Plug it in and it simply sets itself. The alarm wakes you gently from a soft tone to an increasingly louder tone. The only downside to this clock is the bright blue display. It has two brightness settings, but even at its lowest it still gives a blue glow to the entire room. overall still a 10 in my opinion. I would reccommend this clock to anyone

We had this 5 months and the alarm set button for the alarm one is broken. Cheap plastic all around.

Summary: A *very* well-designed clock that is worth every penny of its price.

Pros:
- It automatically sets itself, but you can tweak it if need be.
- The dual alarms are very easy to set.
- Daylight Savings Time adjustments are automatic.
- The display is easy to read.
- The buzzer is actually fairly pleasant-sounding. Here's the kicker: instead of suddenly going off full-volume and scaring the daylights out of you, it starts off very quiet and gets louder with each successive beep until it reaches full volume, taking probably 10 beeps or so to get there. I don't generally get past about the first 4 or 5 before I'm getting out of bed. Quite nice.

Cons:
- The speaker doesn't exactly sound great, but, then again, this isn't a Bose or anything, either.

Other:
- For an alarm clock, it has a pretty decent size footprint, roughly 5"x8". If you have a small or cluttered nightstand, it may be something worth considering.

- The display is really bright even with the dimmer switch set. With the dimmer turned off, this clock could very easily double as a night light. Turned on, it's still pretty bright. If you are someone who needs near-complete darkness to sleep, this may not be the best choice for you, but for most people it shouldn't be any problem whatsoever.

This is my second Emerson SmartSet. I got rid of the first one because it had been made before the changes to Daylight Savings Time made in 2007. Otherwise, I'd probably still have that one.
