4.0 out of 5 stars Great for the Price
I didn't even realize this is an "atomic" clock, until it set itself almost immediately when I plugged it in. Got this for my son, so can go to sleep to music. He had no problem learning the controls as a 10 year old. Nice big number display as well.

3.0 out of 5 stars Slow
This seems to be a good product with one exception. Its sets the time four minutes slow. You can adjust the time to the correct time so what good is the built in timer?

I currently have an old Emerson Research that does not adjust to daylight saving time since Congress changed the dates and I was looking to upgrade. I returned this item because I could not tune the radio station that I have listened to for over 25 years. I will stick with the older model that allows me to hear the radio station that I like.

I would have rated the item zero stars but the web site would not allow me to do that.

5.0 out of 5 stars great clock, will work well for me, April 30, 2007
This review is from: Emerson CKS2235SB Jumbo Display Dual-Alarm Clock Radio with SmartSet Technology (Silver) (Electronics)
I got this clock as a gift, and could care less whether it sets itself or not, I've been setting clocks since I could walk, not a big deal. Most older clocks have battery back ups, so this is not a new feature.
The thing that makes this clock worth the price even without the smart set is the alarm settings. Dual alarm, and can be set for weekdays, weekends, and a couple other settings. So if you are like me, and have different schedules on the weekends you can set one for the weekdays, and one for weekends. bright display, suprisingly good sound, a good everyday clock, worth the price, whether it sets itself or not. Setting itself is a nice feature though. As many others have explained, this is not an atomic clock, nor does it advertise itself to be. Yes, it is a "Self Setting" Clock, pre-set at the factory defaulted to Eastern Standard time in the USA (Mine was 2 minutes behind my actual atomic clock). The set up is easy enough, plug it in, it set's itself, then press the time zone up or down for the time zone you are in, then forget about it for several years. This new version does have the correction for New daylight savings time settings (2007 versions). Again, check this out, even my mother (who is technologically challenged) loves this clock.

5.0 out of 5 stars What more could you want in a clock radio alarm system?, August 28, 2009

This clock has it all. It knows the time and time zone, changes automatically for daylight savings time and back, has two alarms and alarms for week days and weekends. I can see the time at night without my glasses on. It even keeps working and does not need to be reprogrammed when we lose electricity. What more could you want in a clock radio alarm system?

1.0 out of 5 stars Numbers disappearing, July 18, 2008
This review is from: Emerson CKS2235SB Jumbo Display Dual-Alarm Clock Radio with SmartSet Technology (Silver) (Electronics)
Purchased in December 2007, and in less than 6 months have lost the top half of the first digit (top half of the one), and the middle horizontal bar on the second digit (think of an 8 without the center bar). It still tells the appropriate time, if your mind fills in the missing bar. I've had digital clocks for years and never had this happen before. If another bar disappears I will probably replace... not with an Emerson product.

1.0 out of 5 stars Wake up to static, May 28, 2008

I was originally very happy with the product but after about 9 months I found myself waking up to unpleasant static in either the radio or alarm mode. I went to the manufacturer's web site for warranty information and found that they required it to be shipped in the original box, have the original copy of the warranty and a receipt. I only had the receipt, courtesy of Amazon. The web site also did not provide the address to return the product to.

This clock radio is the BOMB...I love it!!! When you plug it in...if you are on the East coast, it sets itself automatically to the present time. You don't have to do anything!! If you are elsewhere on the planet you have to set it with your time zone...it has a radio to wake or a buzzer...if you use the buzzer to wake and want to snooze, you just wave your hand and the snooze activates...really cool!! There's so much more...you have to check it out yourself...if you're in the market, it's my pick!!

The extra large numbers are easy to see. The two completely independent alarms are easy to set. Overall, this is everything I was looking for in an alarm clock.

This clock must have been sitting on the shelf for more than 3 years. When it arrived it would not reset. A call to Emerson revealed the battery (last 3 years ) was dead. I had to buy a new battery (5.95 at radio shack). Then it worked fine. I'm really soured on Amazon
