5.0 out of 5 stars I love EDrive!

I was really impressed by their debut single, "I Should Be Sleeping" - and the rest of Emerson Drive's debut record is just as good. "I Should Be Sleeping" is kind of buried as the sixth song on their 12 song debut, but it is so wonderfully written by Lisa Drew ("There is No Arizona") and Shaye Smith ("Single White Female"). This CD is one that you can put on and...

2.0 out of 5 stars Too pop for me. Where's the twang?
When people say that Nashville has "lost its roots," and that country ain't country anymore, they are talking about bands like Emerson Drive, a would-be N'Sync-style hick music boy band, whose look is almost as preposterous as their sound. ED's thematic range runs from chubby-cheeked, boyish enthusiasm to cheesy, overblown romantic sappiness -- nothing rugged or...

5.0 out of 5 stars I love EDrive!, May 28, 2002
This review is from: Emerson Drive (Audio CD)

I was really impressed by their debut single, "I Should Be Sleeping" - and the rest of Emerson Drive's debut record is just as good. "I Should Be Sleeping" is kind of buried as the sixth song on their 12 song debut, but it is so wonderfully written by Lisa Drew ("There is No Arizona") and Shaye Smith ("Single White Female"). This CD is one that you can put on and listen to all the way through - it is that good!

The songs on the CD are mostly upbeat and all about being in love. My second favorite song is "Passionate Desperate Love", written by Brett Beavers - Pat A's fiddle skills are showcased well!! "Looking Over My Shoulder" and "Evidence" sound kinda alike, but Brad's sexy voice brings both both alive. "Only God (Could Stop Me Loving You)" is the big power ballad on the CD, but "Fall Into Me" is the kind of song every girl wants to hear about a guy who will be there for her. "Say My Name" has lots of cute pop culture references in it and has a very cool beat.

The guys all appear to be in their 20s/early 30s and ARE pleasing to look at. If you like country music with some substance...this may not be it, but that doesn't mean it is bad. The past year or so has been somewhat crowded with new artists - Little Big Town, Carolyn Dawn Johnson, Kevin Denney, Joe Nichols, Brad Martin - no one knows how long any of them will be around, but for my money Emerson Drive will be making hits for a while!!

5.0 out of 5 stars If you like Rascal Flatts, you'll be ready for this drive!, June 25, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Emerson Drive (Audio CD)
These days, rarely does a CD offer more than one or two listenable songs in one package. Emerson Drive is the exception. This debut CD rocks. It's a thin line between pop and country and rock. And these guys tow the line nicely. Stand out songs (besides their great hit "I Should Be Sleeping") include "Fall into Me," "Passionate Sexy Love," "Say My Name," etc. This CD is definitely worth owning.

5.0 out of 5 stars Take this drive, June 22, 2003

This is the first country album that I ever bought and I love absolutely love it. I bought the CD because I liked "Fall Into Me" and "I Should Be Sleeping" and even though those are great songs they aren't the best on the album. The slower stuff like "Evidence" and "Light Of Day" blows the uptempo songs out of the water. If Emerson Drive keep making albums this good, they will have enough songs to fill a greatest hits CD in no time. Can't wait for their new album in December.

5.0 out of 5 stars Songwriting Correction, November 27, 2002
This review is from: Emerson Drive (Audio CD)
An absolutely outstanding CD, run, do not walk, to purchase it. Even better, if you are still sitting on the fence, see them in concert. Emerson Drive will absolutely blow your mind! Their talent is awesome!

A little correction on the songwriting. There are TWO songs on the CD that members of Emerson Drive did write. I SEE HEAVEN was co-written by bass player Jeff Loberg. SAY MY NAME was co-written by keyboardist Chris Hartman. Both of these guys wrote the songs and had some assistance with other writers from Nashville in fleshing them out. The bands previous, independent, CD releases were all written by the band members, at that time they were known as 12 Gauge.

They are healthy 20 something males, of course they are going to write about girls!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Emerson Drive, I now love country!!!!!, July 11, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Emerson Drive (Audio CD)
Yes, all the songs on this CD are songs about love, from wanting the girl/falling in love with the girl/staying true to the girl. Love is, afterall, one of the major themes in all country music. Until now, I have been only a marginal fan of country music, but Emerson Drive has changed all that! Brad Mates' vocals are in a class of their own--he could sing anything--from Harry Connick style music to rock, and he would be incredible. His vocal range includes some pretty sexy bass! Each of the instrumentalists are exceptional musicians, and I believe it is this talent that prompted Shania Twain to ask the band to open for her in her current tour. The lyrics may all be about love, but they are not typical of country, especially those on 'Say My Name', 'Evidence', and 'Looking Over My Shoulder'. After listening to the CD once, it has become my favourite album!
