2.0 out of 5 stars Not as advertised, May 5, 2010
This review is from: Emerson EM 2516 Slimline Phone with 70-Number Caller ID Memory (Office Product)
My phone's display doesn't light up, like the other reviewer noted. It makes it almost impossible to read the display. The sound quality is poor; I have to tell callers to lower their voice or they sound distorted. This phone is used as an extension in one of my bedrooms; so I'll keep it but it's just for convenience sake so I can answer the phone if it rings while I'm in that room. This phone is not made for long conversations. I guess you get what you pay for when you buy a $10.00 phone.

I needed a cheap phone when we first got service and that's exactly what I got. Cheap price and cheap quality. The display does not light up and the sound quality is absolutely horrible (payphones sound better)!

1.0 out of 5 stars I've had to return two of these - the setup simply doesn't work, July 23, 2011

Twice in the past week I have bought one of these phones, and twice I've tried to set it up and found that its menu got stuck part way through the process. So I returned it. No sense calling the customer service 800 number for help when it's clear that the unit is just plain defective. I've had good luck with this brand for other products, but I won't buy another Emerson telephone.

1.0 out of 5 stars Works in a power outage but..., July 19, 2011
This review is from: Emerson EM 2516 Slimline Phone with 70-Number Caller ID Memory (Office Product)
I'm about to return this phone. I don't care how "inexpensive" it is.
I bought this because my good old corded phone that was great during the occasional power outage and had the best redial (I won a couple of radio contests with this one) finally gave up the ghost. They don't make them like they did 10 years ago. Little cheapie $7 phone. I'm sad about it but I digress...
Its already bad that the numbers are not illuminated when you pick up the phone. Why have a phone in a power outage if the numbers don't light up (guess I need a flashlight to use the phone now)? Whats worse is that the buttons on the phone are the same color as the phone. I don't know why I didn't pay attention to that on the box (duh)! But even worse, the numbers on the buttons so not contrast well. They look like gray on black. Whoever designed the phone obviously isn't planning on using it.
Ditto the other reviews about sound quality. It's not even worth it.
