I bought one of these new in 2003 and used it to transfer my videotapes to dvd, I had well over 1000. plus I have used it to transfer Church events, parties, home movies, etc and given the dvds to over 50 people and there has never been a complaint about the dvds or their quality. I also used it to record TV I could watch later, erase it and rerecord weekly and it has...

2.0 out of 5 stars Just hope you never have service
I sent my unit to Funai (support for Emerson) two months ago. I still have not received it back. Someone was supposed to call to let me know the status. Has not happened. Unit was great when it worked, but it stopped keeping time. Buy if you are sure you will never need service.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing!!!!, November 11, 2008

This is a horrible thing to spend your money on. Especially if you actually want to record on DVD's. Mine has only recorded on one and evidently that was an accident. Do your research. Google Emerson DVD/VHS recorder and look at how many people can't use theirs. It's pitiful. I already had a DVD player and now that's all I have in this unit.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Emerson EWR20V4 DVD Recorder/VCR Combo (Electronics)

I also used it to record TV I could watch later, erase it and rerecord weekly and it has worked flawlessly till last december 08, it began to fail to record dvds but the player itself still perfroms flawlessly, and I have HEAVILY used it! I replaced it with a reconditioned one bought here on Amazon, at 1/4 of the original price in 2003, and am very happy with it, it is just like new, and will most likely order another. I bought a new Samsung over Christmas and the dvds it makes are not compatible with my other players, 3 types, however the ones made on the Emerson are compatible. I 've been very pleased with this product.

1.0 out of 5 stars not best one out there...., June 19, 2008

i hated it. i even returned it and bought a Toshiba DVD recorder. with one of theirs, you can make discs that play anywhere. This one, i never found a way. so that's why i say, don't buy this recorder, Toshiba is a good way to go.

and later, when i went o emerson's website to look at it there(maybe i missed something) i couldn't find ANY dvd recorders. so i'm not sure if they'll help you there.
