Product Description

Amazon.com Review

The Emerson Worldwide Hi-Fi Stereo VHS VCR is the perfect item for those who want to play videotapes in any global format. International television formats NTSC, PAL, and SECAM are supported for both recording and playback.

Despite the overwhelming number of available video-format combinations, the EWW7000 succeeds at simplifying the conversion process; all you have to do is pop in the videotape and press Play. We were impressed with the automatic input detection feature, which instantly recognizes the format your tape is recorded in and converts the signal for playback on your monitor or TV set.

You can also use the EWW7000 to record programming delivered in the NTSC, PAL, or SECAM formats for playback on the VHS-cassette format. The player automatically converts the TV signal as it records. If you want to bypass the auto-detection feature, you can specify your preferred input and output format instead. This global VCR also lets you play programs that you recorded in another country--an excellent feature considering that the alternative is to send your tape to a costly dubbing-and-conversion facility.

Despite the multiformat functionality, the video quality does not suffer when converted from format to format. We found the picture and sound quality to be comparable to midpriced four-head VCR models. The unit's time-base correction feature, which delivers clean video images and clear audio, enhances the conversion quality. Another helpful feature of the EWW7000 is the built-in automatic digital-tracking and voltage-switching features.

The intuitive recording-and-playback interface further increase the functionality of the EWW7000. If you plan to do a lot of traveling or prefer international video programming, the EWW7000 is the perfect global VCR for you.

Pros:

  • Auto-detection conversion process
  • Supports world video formats (NTSC, PAL, and SECAM)
  • Intuitive interface makes recording and playback simple
  • Good quality video (4-head VCR)

Cons:

  • Multisystem video features are unnecessary for most VCR consumers

3.0 out of 5 stars Some limitations, November 15, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Emerson EWW7000 Worldwide Hi-Fi Stereo VHS VCR (Electronics)
Overall this is a good product. Picture play-back on all tape formats is excellent, so too is the sound quality. So what does this VCR lack? Well it has no timer, therefore it can only be used to record programmes which are being broadcast at that time. This is a major dissappointment. The styling of the VCR is elegant and the operating instructions easy to follow. Overall a good product.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great product if you don't always use NTSC., September 3, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Emerson EWW7000 Worldwide Hi-Fi Stereo VHS VCR (Electronics)
This VCR truly allows you to play VHS cassettes from around the world on your TV. It can also be used to record in any of those formats too. If you need to view tapes from Europe (for example), and / or send tapes there that they can view, then you should consider this product. It doesn't have a tuner, but that's no problem since you can easily connect it to another VCR. It can also be used as a direct convertor e.g. to convert a PAL camcorder feed directly onto your NTSC TV without having to record it first. By default it will auto detect the input signal type, but this can be overridden to select the input and output type. It can only play and record in short play mode. Overall I was impressed with this product.

3.0 out of 5 stars It is nice, but too expensive, October 14, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Emerson EWW7000 Worldwide Hi-Fi Stereo VHS VCR (Electronics)
And besides, it is not truly VCR because it doesn't have a built-in tuner that any VCR supposed to have. So it's just a video player with recording ability. I live in Europe, and I can buy fully functional 6-head multisystem hi-fi stereo VCR for almost the same price here. Compare with ur 4-head Non -recording TV programs device?
