i read all of the reviews of all of the karaoke machines and..., December 26, 2011
This review is from: Emerson GF827 DVD Karaoke Player (Electronics)
what i found was that all of them have at least a couple of people who were greatly disappointed with their machine. so in the end i decided to take a gamble with this machine. i got it from Sears at holiday time. i chose to get the three year extended warranty because so many of the reviews said the machines broke down shortly after the warranty expired.
many reviews said that they got it as a gift and it was well received but did not work out of the box so i decided to try it out before wrapping it. (did i mention i bought more than one just in case...?)
it worked. it was easy to figure out. it sounded pretty darn good.
i thought i heard a buzz or a ring or something in the speaker but the second time i tried it i didn't hear it. it could have just been that i had been sitting too close to it..? there was a bit of feedback from sitting right in front of it and reading the lyrics. it was easily remedied.
the cds it came with were terrible! but then again, most of the cdgs i've found are! they were still fun, regardless.
we really like the feature of being able to plug in the ipod and youtube songs to sing along to. sadly, with this feature you can't really show the image on your tv and ipods have tiny screens.
the mics are actually awesome! they pick up subtleties (very sensitive) and are very clear. our karaoke revolution mics for our wii and xbox are terrible so maybe we just have a low bar? i don't think so, though. i like that we can dial down either mic as my five year old has NO restraint!
i guess i lucked out with this one! i can't wait until my daughter discovers that she has her own dvd player now, too!
the only complaint i have is that when we pipe it through the tv/speaker system it still plays through it's own speaker. there is also a lag between the two so it sounds like the beat is off by a nanosecond. it's distracting so we just turned down the master volume knob and we could still hear our voices and the music through the tv/surround sound.
overall, i'd say this machine is extremely versatile and of decent quality. it's fairly easy to use. i love that there are two microphones and that the ipod hooks up to it. MY ipod does not sit well in the cradle- must not be the right model. i really like that the mics have a resting place for when they are not in use- sturdy ones, too! i'd recommend unplugging the mics when the machine isn't in use to minimize the chance of ruining the jacks. i'm very glad i finally took the plunge and chose this one! it does so much and it can be so simple! (we were just singing through it while listening to our stereo! what a blast!).
THIS IS DEFINITELY GREAT FAMILY FUN! the only two things i'd recommend are purchasing a longer cord to attach the ipod so you can read the lyrics but position yourself further from the speaker and if you want to listen to it through head phones and sing with both mics you may want to get a splitter for the headphone jack so that both singers can hear the music.
in case you think this is a bogus review i would like to reassure you that it is not. i just wanted to write a long, comprehensive review to help people who, like me, are tired of trying to figure out which reviews are bogus and who just had a bad experience and needed vent.
my recommendation is that you try it out as soon as you get it to see for yourself how you like it and to avoid disappointment. i'm sure with the sheer volume of these machines being produced that there will be lemons. but this one is a gem as far as i'm concerned!

Great machine in this price range!, January 12, 2012
This review is from: Emerson GF827 DVD Karaoke Player (Electronics)
I have tried since 2008 to find a karaoke machine that worked well, and stayed that way. So far this fits the bill. Glad the others didn't work out; this one does so much more. I love the key-change feature! Good mics, good sound, easy to use controls. Nice echo and bass. I have had this for about 3 weeks and still happy with it. Gotta love how technology keeps improving devices. :) I haven't tried recording on it yet, or using an SD card to sing with. The 300 songs that come with it are mostly American folk music that we all learned in 3rd grade, but you know what, it's worth preserving that heritage. Some of them are still fun to sing to. The religious CD was a definite plus. Lots of songs from when I was very young. Overall am very happy with this machine, AND it's lightweight! Only one very small issue... if I sing a high note, loud, too close to the mic, the speaker makes a tinny sound. (So I don't do that anymore :) Great job on this one, Emerson!
