4.0 out of 5 stars Kid's radio
My son loves this radio! It seems built well enough, provided you don't 'play' with it. He brought me the radio antennae the other day, but I suspect it wasn't the radio's fault.

1.0 out of 5 stars broke within 3 months
We bought this radio/CD player for our son for Christmas 2008. It was so cute & cool, but it stopped playing CDs early in February 2009. It was always treated with utmost care and respect. Emerson said if it's within the 90 day warranty, we can box it up and send it in on our dime and they'll probably fix it or send another one. Well, I had better drop everything and...

4.0 out of 5 stars My almost 4 yr old son loves this boombox, January 8, 2009

I bought this for my almost 4 yr old son for Christmas and he has loved it. The knob on the side that makes car sounds is really cute. Overall, very pleased with this purchase. However, I did find it at Walmart after I purchased it thru Amazon for $35 and then closer to Christmas it was marked down even more to $25. Still a great boombox!

5.0 out of 5 stars My 3yr old loves it!, May 30, 2009
This review is from: Emerson Radio Hot Wheels HW200 Rock N' Race Boombox (Red/Black) (Electronics)
My son recieved this for his 3rd birthday in April. We were looking for a cd player for his room so he could listen to soft music at bedtime. Sometimes we turn up the volume during play time and there is (what's supposed to look like) a key in the ignition that he can turn and the announcer will interupt whatever cd is playing to say something like 'Gentleman start your engines' then you hear a racecar speed away - He LOVES this! He's a big fan of the Cars movie, that's the whole theme of his room and this boombox fits right in.

This cd/radio player was perfect for my 8 yr old grandson's first personal music player. Not too many buttons and since he loved the Cars movie the appearance wasn't overwhelming as to what it would do.

Perfect for a child's first player.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great "themed" boombox!, January 18, 2009
This review is from: Emerson Radio Hot Wheels HW200 Rock N' Race Boombox (Red/Black) (Electronics)
I was initially skeptical about buying a "theme" boombox since so many are really just expensive, cheaply made toys that break quickly, can't catch a decent radio station and have a short battery life (E.g. the Barbie boombox, the Hello Kitty boom, etc.) I was really surprised, however, to find that the Hot Wheels boombox not only looks cool to my 5 year old son, but also has a pretty good sound to it. The top loading CD feature makes it easy for younger kids to slip music disks in and out and the large buttons on the front are easy to distinguish (play, forward, reverse, stop) from each other. AND, to top it off, the radio works great for a non-digital radio. It requires 6 C batteries, but also comes with an AC adaptor for longer play time. The outside case is sturdy and not too heavy, so it is really easy for him to carry around the house and take outdoors. Also, the volume cranks up pretty high so he can enjoy blasting music to the neighbors. This is the first theme boombox I can honestly recommend to parents.

This is a great stereo! It's very straightforward to use. I was surprised at how small it is. I was expecting it to be bigger, but after all, it's made by hotwheels, so of course it's not very big. The sound quality is good, the features are good, and I am happy with this product.

to whomever,
I received a defective HW Hotwheels Boombox and had to send it back. The replacement was defective but better than the original. I was outraged when I had to pay the return postage before I could close the deal. The postage was $13.50. To send the second boom box back would have cost me an additional $13.50. I'll never deal with that company again. Am I wrong in assuming that I was not obligated to pay the return postage?

Regards.
Joe Chilbert

This was a Christmas gift for my 6-year-old nephew along with some CD's. He loves it and uses it all the time. No problems with the product so far. Great service.

2.0 out of 5 stars Key Sound Effect is a HUGE turn off, September 3, 2011
This review is from: Emerson Radio Hot Wheels HW200 Rock N' Race Boombox (Red/Black) (Electronics)
We have two of these for our sons' rooms (one 6, one 3), and as CD players and radios, they work great. Unfortunately, we've had to remove them from both boys' rooms because the engine revving key effect goes off randomly, even in the middle of the night. After several nights of one or both boys ending up in our bed because they were awakened at 3 AM by the INCREDIBLY LOUD sound of "it's a great day for racing, vroom vroom!" as the boombox randomly went off for no apparent reason. There's no way to disable this feature at all, and it's a glaring design feature--if it were only one unit I'd chalk it up as defective or a short or something, but clearly it's a systemic problem with the model, because BOTH of them do it.

Aside from that fatal flaw, they're great, affordable CD radios; they even play MP3 discs which is awesome. Unfortunately I can't have something in preschool kids' rooms that randomly blares a strange man's voice and car sounds randomly at all hours.
