I purchased this TV from [...] refurbished. It looks like new and after changing my directv service to HD, the picture looks great. The definition is excellent. The only - thing is that there is no code for the directv remote to be able to set this TV to work with the directv remote, so you have to use both remotes. Since I use it in the room, it is ok. 1.0 out of 5 stars Worst customer service if it breaks and it will . . .
I bought this tv for a Christmas gift for my mother and within 8 months the tv wont turn on and stay on. The production date on the tv is August 08, so in less than a year of production, it is broken. The worst part is that when I spoke to a service rep with the company, she informed me that since it broke within a year, in order for them to see if they can cover the...

The only - thing is that there is no code for the directv remote to be able to set this TV to work with the directv remote, so you have to use both remotes. Since I use it in the room, it is ok. I read many reviews about this and apparently cable and dish tv customers have the same problem. About Emerson, I used to have a small Emerson TV a while ago and the picture was great and it lasted for ever, so I trust this brand even thought many people have not heard about it. Keep in mind that for HD LCD TVs you'll need to get HD signal to get the best picture quality. This is a great TV and I recommend it highly.

4.0 out of 5 stars I'm happy with my purchase, October 9, 2009

I wanted a new tv that was affordable. This television was the most affordable as well as the biggest I could purchase with what I had to spend.
This is not the tvs fault but you don't automatically get HD tv from your cable company just because you have an HDTV. I didn't know that and wondered why I couldn't get the HD channels. Duh. The HD will cost a little more. I don't have the HDTV cable and I just get regular digital tv from the tv. Which, to me, is fine. Some people may feel differently and if it makes that much of a difference to you than you'll probably also want a more expensive television with crystal clear picture quality-which this one doesn't.
But for the price-I can handle the downgrade in picture quality.

I'm happy with the video quality. It's not spectacular but it's definitely watchable without being annoying or even an issue in any way shape or form. I enjoy my shows without ever even having to think about it. I just enjoy the big screen.
The television has different screen modes to choose from. The cinemax or movie mode one can be a tiny bit fuzzy and the whole picture doesn't fit into the screen but I dont think that's the tvs fault. I think that's just how the cinemax/movie mode is.
The other modes are fine.
Like I said-if you've got to have stellar picture quality than go spend a thousand and more on another tv the same size as this.
As far as the sound goes, I wish it were just a little better quality. No biggie. It's nothing that annoys me. It gets pretty loud and I can hear it most of the time with no problem. But it does have CC if, like me, movies are a pain to hear because the actors have a habit of talking /whispering way too low with their dialog. The furniture they sit on make more coherent sound than they do. It's really frustrating.
I think if it had better sound quality, I could hear them better than their footsteps and furniture but I could be wrong about that.

The tv was easy to set up. REally very simple.
I would recommend this. I know it's been refurbished but I am very happy with my purchase.
Save yourself some money if you're not going to nit pick about crystal clear picture quality.

UPDATE: Just wanted to add. My brother spent thousands of dollars on his big screen tv. My sister, who lives with him, came to my house watched my tv and said out of the blue, I like this tv better than the one at home. I told her how cheap I got it for. She said she liked it better. Go figure.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great TV at a great price, January 4, 2009

We bought this TV just before Christmas and just love it. It has a great picture and works well with our cable tv connection. We had difficulty at first setting it up because it wants to set the channels itself, so be sure and set it to manual before you begin. We called Emerson for help and they were very genial and helpful. As the other rater said, it does not sinc with my cable remote, but that seems the only drawback to us.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great LCD/HDTV for the price, May 8, 2009
This review is from: Emerson 32" LCD HDTV (Electronics)
The Emerson 32" LCD HDTV is a perfect TV for any room. I was quite surprised on how lightweight it felt and I found it easy to program. I was able to program the remote control to my cable company's DVR converter and a DVD player by just using the search feature after reading the instructions. The base it sits on is sturdy. Better for the environment since it uses less power than most brands and has a long life expectancy. I just wished it had more for component/video inputs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Purcahsed 6 sets. all working perfectly, November 29, 2009
This review is from: Emerson 32" LCD HDTV (Electronics)
We bought total of 6 sets of this. (Yes.....6 SETS!!! ) at a Black Friday Thanksgiving special.
To be used at 5 different locations.

All working right out of the box.

It's even got a build in QAM tuner. and because of this new tuner, we are getting over 125+ channels free from our basic limit cable service.
On the old 32-42 LCD/Plasma TVs we had. Only gave us 20 or so channels.....(Those are not even that old...like 3 years old at most) Because the old sets we had has NO QAM (HDTV) tuner. the picture quality is VERY poor when watching analog channels. Unless you pay extra to get a HDTV Cable box or converter of some sort.

For those who are new to QAM tuner. Check out Wikipedia to see how it works.(Do a search for "QAM tuner" at the Wikipedia site)

So regardless what you decide to buy, make sure your new TV has BOTH ATSC and QAM tuner !
This TV is very nice!
Especially consider the price we paid. ;) And price we will save for NOT Paying extra for cable company for the life of those new TV set.

The only drawback I see so far is no VGA input (can't connect to a computer) but if your computer has a HDMI or S video or component out...you are all set. ;)

And oh...the remote is NOT a universal remote control...But for the 3 years I have the other set that come with universal remote ...I have never utilize that feature.

14 months later: 2 of them stolen and the other 4 still working perfectly.

I bought this tv for a Christmas gift for my mother and within 8 months the tv wont turn on and stay on. The production date on the tv is August 08, so in less than a year of production, it is broken. The worst part is that when I spoke to a service rep with the company, she informed me that since it broke within a year, in order for them to see if they can cover the parts for it to be fixed (only in an "authorized" emerson tv repair shop,50 minutes away,) I'd have to speak to a level 2 representative at another phone number. As luck would have it, though, the only phone lines that the level 2 representatives are available on are down and have been for a month and a half! I've been getting nowhere! Please do yourself a favor and wait for another brand to go on sale. By the way, two years ago, I bought an Emerson dvd/vcr player that also worked for less than a year, but I just threw it away.

2.0 out of 5 stars Pro's and Con's from a video gamer., December 29, 2009
This review is from: Emerson 32" LCD HDTV (Electronics)
Pro's
Tons of inputs to access.
Half the price of a Vizio or Samsung and looks fine for tv. (Non-HD user)
20lbs.

Con's
Response time(ms) is too slow! Can't find the specs but it has to be like 14 compared to a Samsung's 6. You can see the players in FIFA dragging across the screen. Gives you a huge headache after 5 minutes. Sometimes its better then other times.
Volume on controller sometimes changes the channel.
Volume sometimes doesn't work on controller.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great TV, July 6, 2010
This review is from: Emerson 32" LCD HDTV (Electronics)
I bought this tv in August of 2007. I still use it to this day, and overall it has been a pretty good tv. I have moved it several times to and from college, and have used dvd players, a Gamecube, a Playstation 2, and an Xbox 360 on it, and all have always had decent picture and sound. It has not broke once since I have owned it, and the picture and sound quality have been consistent throughout the entire time.

My only complaint would be that the picture for cable television is very lackluster. I would honestly get better picture using just a standard definition television. However, HD channels look nice on the tv. All or most HDTV's might have the same problem with standard definition cable, but that is something I am not too much about.

Overall, it is a decent TV and one that has been well used throughout the years. Would recommend checking it out if the price is decent enough.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Reliable LCD TV, January 4, 2010
This review is from: Emerson 32" LCD HDTV (Electronics)
I purchased this TV back in 2007 for around $500. At the time, 32" LCD TVs were around $700-$800 for most models and I was a little skeptical of buying an Emerson Television. I decided to go ahead and purchase the TV and can't say that I regret it at all. It was a great value for the money.

From reading other people's reviews on here, it sounds like some people received a bad unit. Well I have owned my Emerson 32" TV for more than 2 years now and I have not had a single issue with the TV or remote. Of course this TV is not the higher quality LCDs that are in stock now b/c it is an older model. I actually purchased the protection plan for 3 years which was a complete waste of money since I have had no issues at all.

The design isn't bad and again, a lot of newer TVs have a more stylish and sleek look than this TV does. I think the design looks good to me just not as good as many newer models that are out there.

Picture quality isn't too bad and looks great with HDMI through the Xbox 360. I just recently hooked the 360 up through the HDMI Cable and I have been missing out!! Sound quality isn't the best but I didn't expect too much given the price for this unit. My family has owned another Emerson TV for many years and a dvd/vcr combo that has been working with no problems for more than 8 years. Emerson, although cheaper, has been a reliable source for electronics since I have used them. If you are seeking a fancier LCD with more options then this TV is not for you. If you are looking for a more basic LCD without paying a lot of money, I would suggest looking into this model.
