This microwave cooks well. I use the timer also when cooking food in the regular oven. One time, I accidentally turned the empty microwave on for 20 minutes instead of just setting the timer while I had something in the regular oven. I noticed a weird burning smell a few minutes later. I came back in and saw the microwave was causing the smell, and the display was off. The microwave had shut itself completely off before it burned itself out. A few minutes later it came back on and worked fine. I looked this up and found out that some microwaves shut down if they overheat, so it avoids a fire and avoids ruining the microwave. For the few minutes the microwave wasn't responding and was completely shut down, I thought I had actually broken it, so I was quite glad when it came back on. I was impressed that my microwave did this, since I am absent minded. This prevented me from getting in too much trouble with my family, who also use the microwave, and perhaps prevented a fire. This microwave works well, and it also helps avoid user error.

After checking out microwaves on Amazon, I decided to buy this same microwave from Walmart for $59.00. I made sure that it was the same model number, size, and brand before I posted this review because I believe in being concise and exact with my reviews . It worked fine for the first few months and now it overheats and shuts down after heating anything more
than 2 min. I cannot even finish cooking a bag of popcorn in it. The sides and back are free and clear of clutter or anything else that would stop the airflow to the motor so I sure that is not the reason for the overheating. The back and sides get extremely hot before it shuts down! If I wait about 2 hours, I can start it up again but it never fails to die after a 2 minute cooking.
I purchased this because the design of stainless steel and black went well with my other appliances. Boy am I sorry!
Do yourself a favor and don't buy this model.
I rated it a 1 because it looks stylish and worked well for a short time before it died.

This microwave has been a frustration to me since about 8 months after we bough it. It started to overheat and shut down. At first it was after about 8-10 minutes of continuous use. Now it has gotten progressively worse to the point that we cannot even cook a bag of popcorn before it overheats and shuts off. When I called Emerson they stated that they had no complaints about this machine. I will never buy another Emerson brand appliance.

I have had this microwave for a couple/maybe 3 years and I wish I would have returned it because ever since I can remember it has shut off due to over heating on cooking anything over 2-3 minutes.. then you have to wait on it to cool off. It gets extremely hot... I finally called Emerson today and the representative told me that they have not had any complaints about this microwave. I asked them to take down my name and number and to file this so maybe there will be enough complaints that they will have to issue a recall on this. If you are having this problem or a problem with Emerson, their number is 1-800-695-0098. I believe that I am going to buy another microwave (definately not an Emerson), now that I have children that uses this microwave.

Worked great for the first year and a half then started showing problems. Oven will come on by itself and won't shut off even after hitting reset... it does shut off when you open the door - thank God! But when you shut the door, on it goes again... If I smack the top of it it'll finally shut off / reset and will work again for a few cycles. I'm afraid it's time to buy a different model and brand. Don't waste your money on this one!

The title says it all- it worked OK for 2 years then died. My only complaints other than that is the 5 beeps when it is done cooking, and the timer can't be used if you want to cook something. Other than that it cost me $50 per year to own. Would not buy Emerson again, bought this one at Wally World.

Just 6 months after buying this, it started acting up.

When you set the timer, it continued to run after the set time! I've had mini explosions and almost fires happen. Highly dangerous.

Sometimes, it just wont run.

I looked them up and these guys make some music gadgets. Have no credibility when it comes to Microwaves.

Made a mistake buying it last minute at a local store because it looked good.

The warranty is for a year but you have to ship it to a service center at your cost and also pay $15 for them to ship it back.

Rip-off.

I had this microwave for nearly two years when the button started sticking and the door wouldn't operate correctly. Then one day it seemed to short out or just die- the fact that this happened while snowed in with nothing in the fridge except microwave dinners makes me think it did it out of spite.

I bought this on a whim. We had moved to a new house and all my appliances were stainless steel so I thought I couldn't have my old black microwave in there with all those sleek appliances! Wrong move! I saw this and snapped it up because it was so cheap and sleek-looking. However, performance is horrible! It takes at least twice as long to cook something as it should. And after about a week or two, the door started feeling like it could come off at any moment -a year later, it's sill on there but still feels like it could come off. It doesn't "line up" with the microwave. DON'T buy it!!

i own this model & it has to be the worst nuker ever. it stains inside terribly, doesn't have minute plus like my old one or very many preprogrammed buttons at all. when u make something like popcorn, the smell lasts for weeks. the clock goes out at least once a mo. i'm ordering a sanyo 2day.... anyone want a emerson REAL cheap??? seriously, i'll keep it as a backup i guess. wouldn't give this one to my worst enemy.

IMHO....spend a few bucks more & get one w/ everything u want & need on it. also it pays {pun intended} to do your research b4 buying.
