Heats Up Fast But...,
This review is from: Emerson MW8991SB 0.9Cu.Ft. 900 Watt Touch-Control Microwave Oven, Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
I've enjoyed having this little microwave and it's been a fast heater upper. I do have a few issues with the product I wanted to bring to everyone attention, tho. It's painted inside with a cream colored paint that started coming off under the glass plate after a year of use. Maybe it's because my hubby likes to heat his sunflower seeds in the microwave and the plate gets very hot. I'm not sure. Next, just this past week the oven filled up with small, white, lightning bolts and scared me really good. I had to reach and push the release button to open the door not knowing if I would be knocked backwards or risk a fire. In all I believe the microwave gets to hot for the material quality it is made of. Just becareful with this little fellow and treat it with kid gloves. I hope my review helps someone.

Good while it lasted, which wasn't long.,
This review is from: Emerson MW8991SB 0.9Cu.Ft. 900 Watt Touch-Control Microwave Oven, Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
I'm not very fussy on products like a microwave as I am other tech products; as long as it can heat up a Hot Pocket and a bag of popcorn, I have no issues. I bought this microwave in store for $80 (approximate). I've had it for just over a year (of course, it is only has warranty for 1 yr.) and it just died. Can't find anything wrong, and the cost to have a repairman come look at it alone (forget any actual work or parts) isn't worth the money or my time. I'll save money by purchasing a new one (of another brand) instead.
For those looking for a microwave and conducting their research on Amazon and online like I do, I would highly recommend to STAY AWAY from Emerson products, or at least this one.

Not worth the price,

It was a good microwave... for awhile. Then it decided to blow up. I haven't even had it a year. I spent a little more for what I thought would be a better microwave, but I'll stick with the cheapies from now on--they last longer. Btw, to get the parts to fix this microwave cost more than the original purchase of the microwave! Ridiculous.

The first one I received didn't work. I sent in a quiry received a reply and got postage to send it back UPS. I did and within days the replacement came. It works fine. I like the controls on it. It has a lot of options and quick cooks. It's the right size for my apartment too since it's 900 volts it's doesn't overload the circuits.

Where's the timer?,
By
This review is from: Emerson MW8991SB 0.9Cu.Ft. 900 Watt Touch-Control Microwave Oven, Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
The other reviewer is incorrect about the microwave's (in)ability for specific cooking time input. All you have to do is hit the Power Level button first, then the numbers will allow you to input any time you want, 8 seconds or 45 seconds or whatever. I have the same 8992sb that the other reviewer has.
I've had the microwave for 3 months, and for the most part it has worked very well and is very easy to operate. One minor flaw is that the Popcorn button, when pressed once, defaults to settings for a 1.75 oz bag of microwave popcorn. This is the "mini" bag size that isn't very common. Most microwave popcorn comes in a slightly larger bag, and to set for that you have to push the Popcorn button TWICE to get to the correct setting. This is counter-intuitive, as the majority of microwave popcorn on store shelves is the larger size. It took me a few bags of popcorn to figure that out, and I had a LOT of unpopped kernels until I looked back at the manual and then at my box of popcorn to see that the microwave doesn't default to the most common size. But that's minor. The major flaw with this microwave is WHERE IS THE KITCHEN TIMER? Most new microwaves nowadays have a kitchen timer. The store where I bought this microwave lists that it has a kitchen timer. This site lists that it has a kitchen timer, and this microwave has the exact same button display as mine. The owner's manual does NOT list a kitchen timer. I have pressed every button on the thing, and there is no timer. I tried adjusting the power level from 1 - 10. Power level 1 still turns on power, and there is no Power Level 0. I used the kitchen timer on my old microwave all the time. When I bought this one, multiple sources listed it having a kitchen timer. But there is no timer. If I had known before I bought this microwave that it had no timer function, I would NOT have bought it.

I've had this microwave for about a year and a half... had to replace my old microwave that I've had since the 80's ( still ran but didn't look pretty in my sleek new kitchen) The price was very reasonable and I like the way it looked. I noticed a burning smell coming from the microwave, a smell associated with failing electrical parts. This lasted for about a week before it just died. After only about a year and a half! Lesson learned, and I would never buy another appliance from this company again.

I have owned two microwaves in my life: the one I had as a wedding gift that lasted for 8 years, and my Emerson which lasted for about 1. Pretty quickly, the paint on the inside of the microwave started chipping off, revealing rust. Last week, the microwave started smoking and sparking. At least my last microwave just died. When an Emerson goes, it tries to take your house down with it. The Macbeth of microwaves, it will not play the "Roman fool," but will die lashing out at everything around it. Do not buy this product. Google their name.

We've had this microwave for 2 years. It has recently started making faint crackling noises continually when plugged in - even when not running. This makes us nervous and we decided to replace it. Other observations: I never did figure out how to customize the time for amounts other than full minutes or half minutes. I was disappointed that the microwave did not have a kitchen timer. I really missed that feature. The paint/finish started peeling off the front surface under the turntable, where it meets/touches the bottom of the door. However, it heated food just fine. We like the 30 seconds button, and the fact that numbers up to 6 will start the oven running for that many minutes (5 = 5 minutes).

not durable at all,
This review is from: Emerson MW8991SB 0.9Cu.Ft. 900 Watt Touch-Control Microwave Oven, Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
For the last 18 years, my husband and I have had only one microwave, a brand that isn't even manufactured anymore. It finally gave up the ghost in May. Because we were extremely short on time, we stepped into a nearby store and bought the one with the best features and which seemed the most solid when looking at the display microwaves. Strangely, even though this Emerson seemed the best when comparing display models, it has ended up being anything but solid.
On the very first use, the inner plastic lining on the window of the door started to bubble. So far it has only been small bubbles, but they remain and will not go away. The plastic over the STOP button has blistered too, and it's increasing in size. I suspect it will eventually crack. The unit is very loud, vibrating a lot when in use, and the door clangs with an echo like a cartoon sound effect every time you close it. And those beeps! Five shrill beeps when cooking ends, and there is nothing you can to stop it. Only hitting the STOP button or opening the door would prevent the beeps. (When you press START or STOP, there is only one beep, not five.) The beeping was waking me up every morning when my husband made his breakfast, so he created a memory setting to cook for 5 minutes and then run on 0% power for 10 minutes, giving him time to get dressed and come back in to turn the cooking off manually. And that worked fine until a brief power flicker wiped out his memory setting. The manual says it will hold a memory setting briefly because of a battery in the unit, but that's apparently not true. So far, cooking has been fine. No hot or cold spots, and I'm able to do TV dinners in about 30 seconds less than the recommended times. The BEVERAGE button is 1 minute each press, which works out fine when I'm making tea. I can't figure out the kitchen timer but I rarely need it, so it's not a problem for me, but those who want this because of the kitchen timer might want to find a store to test it out first. I'm not sure it even works. Cleaning the unit has been nice, just a damp washcloth is all I've needed so far. The plate goes through the top rack of my dishwasher just fine. The good cooking and clean-up are what make me give this 3 stars, everything else is a 1-star situation. Basically, this will be an okay unit to tide us over until we need to get another one, but I've learned my lesson: Get a microwave when you have time to research reviews and browse, don't wait until your old one conks out and you have to get one ASAP. If I had read the reviews, I never would have purchased this particular microwave.

Died in 3 Years, also,
This review is from: Emerson MW8991SB 0.9Cu.Ft. 900 Watt Touch-Control Microwave Oven, Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
This Microwave worked well for a very short time period. It never saw any excessive use, but only after 2 years the thing decided to short out and die. We got it fixed and it lasted a couple of months before doing it again. Not recommended.
