Regardless of whether it was the shippers fault or not, this record player had plenty of bubble wrap in it to protect it. The support for the turntable was not screwed in as it was supposed to be and the glue that was supporting it failed thus the turntable had fallen. I had to sit in my living room on Christmas day trying to fix this for my father. You can imagine my disdain. Once I got the support screwed back in and I attempted playing a record I was greeted by the lovely sounds of... nothing. Actually I could hear it if I got my ear really close to the speaker. I have ordered a replacement needle, but if this doesn't work I can safely say my overall satisfaction with this product is very low. It may look nice and the radio may work, but I didn't buy it for the radio!

Well, mine works great!,

I bought this radio and it worked fine right out of the box. The sound is good and the turntable works fine. After reading the other reviews I seem to have been lucky to get a good one. So if it works, it's great and, if not, then I guess it wouldn't be that great.
Is this a helpful review or what? UPDATE 12/10/2010: I listen to this radio everyday and it continues to work great. I used the record player a few weeks ago and it is still working good. BUT, after reading the reviews of other people who bought this radio: Be afraid. Be very afraid.

I recieved this item as a gift and the records that I have would not play because the needle skipped very badly. you have to moved the needle onto the right size of record to be played. The sound is terrible. I don"t know how to fix it.

This record player is so nice looking. I like how it has the lever to put the needle gently on the record and I just like the whole setup of it. It sounds a little staticy but besides that it is great.

My grandma got me this phonograph at a fred myers for me. It was one of two sitting on a shelf not even in a box. All that they had. We brought it home and I popped a record on it and it worked just fine. My grandparents gave me a bunch of old original vinyls, some that work and some that don't. The ones that work like the who, tommy work just fine. I took the phonograph back home with me in california. I listen to my phonograph all the time, I love to play all my records. Records are before my time but I think they are soo cool. To this day the phonograph works great. I am listening to it as I type this. I got Beach Boys in it right now! I guess after reading all the reviews here that I got lucky with my phonograph working good. It comes with the 45 adaptor and three speed settings, and it looks pretty cool. I guess it's supposed to look like a 40's phonograph but I don't know? It would be a little risky buying one of these being that the chances of the phonograph not working are pretty high. I just got lucky I guess. Theres a good saying that my dad always told me... YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! So good luck with this phonograph, hope it works for you!

IT DOES WHAT IT'S SUPPOSED TO DO,
This review is from: Emerson NR101TT Heritage Home Stereo (Electronics)
Well now that I have commented on a lot of other people's reviews I must write my own. I quickly bought this item as a back-up for my early eighties component system since I have a huge vinyl collection. A friend spotted it at a floor model sale for 45 dollars with the one year warranty. And it plays 78s! I found a few! Having lived with it for about 3 years during which I played it seldom but enough to learn its plusses and minuses I'll say this: If you can get one for 45 dollars new with a warranty by all means grab it. It's easily the most beautiful of all these units that have a 3 speed turntable and a radio. From what I've heard, the CD players are kind of iffy. Sometimes they don't work because of a problem with a micro-chip which would involve having to return it.
Yes, the sound is thinner and not as rich or complex as what you get on a component system costing far more. There is no bass response that I can detect from the speakers. Strings can sound strident at times but brass sounds quite good. Radio reception is not as good as on the Panasonic boom box I have which cost at least 3 times as much. I played a live concert album recorded in the seventies with Procol Harum and a symphony and singers. The combination of primitive, unrehearsed live recording methods and the little unit's limitations produced a rather distorted, slurred, lead vocal. (However, when listening to the CD album here and at All Music I noticed similar problems with the vocal.) The loudest passages of the concert were distorted and some harshness was evident. I had no problems listening to a superior Wagner recording partly because I don't understand German. Another reviewer has warned about the tone arm weight and its wear and tear on records. Since I can go months without playing records this isn't something I would worry about. At the other extreme, you can pay thousands of dollars for the ultimate 1 gram tracking force audiofile system to listen to all day while your money works for you, if your plutonian lifestyle permits it. In conclusion, if you want to listen to your old records right now or buy a few new ones but have limited funds, consider this at the lowest possible price. Otherwise, shop carefully for used components and over time you could assemble a decent system. Ask family or friends about their experience and recommendations.

Exterior aesthetically pleasing... sound- not at all,
This review is from: Emerson NR101TT Heritage Home Stereo (Electronics)
I would NOT recommend this item at all (Unless you are just buying it as a decoration)
This turntable was my belated Christmas gift and it just came in today. In my excitement, I quickly unwrapped it and marveled at its beauty. I put a Frank Sinatra record on. The sound quality was horrible and this was a clean record! I figured.. Ok maybe it works better with newer records so I put a Tears for Fears record on and to my disdain the sound was metallic and it seems like it picks up all the little imperfections on the records. I put it on radio to see what that would sound like and it sounded like a dollar store radio. I read the reviews after I got it and gave it the benefit of the doubt. DON'T give it the benefit of the doubt just because it's pretty. If you want a great turntable I would recommend a Numark... but not this. Don't waste your money.

Very Disappointed,

I have wanted a record player for several years, and was thrilled when my parents got me one for Christmas this year. I followed all of the instructions, put a brand new record on the turntable... And it skipped. Horribly. I tried two other records, both older but in good condition. They skipped. I tried a different new record... it skipped. I even tried the penny trick (put a penny on the stylus)... it skipped. You see my point? I wanted to cry. I am very disappointed and would tell anyone buying this to think again. It's cheaply made and doesn't work. Save your money!
